When I got my car it had the tranny rebuilt with some sort of shift kit already installed. The car shifts very nice and firm and will chirp second and bag third. The problem is the car wont get out of the gate at all. I found out today that the car has a regular non lockup converter that stalls like 1500-1800 or something, its for a regular 200 I guess. Any way I am curious to find out if the transmission was also changed since it seems to me that some non turbo buick place installed the wrong converter that they may have also installed a crappy regular off the shelf 200.

Is there anyway to identify the transmission? I know the valve bodies are different in the reg 200 and the turbo regal 200. Are there any other differences???

BQ or BR code for a turbo regal. The converter was probably swapped during a prior overhaul. This is a common thing to find these days. Just et a proper converter and switch it out.

If you have a 87' then it should be a BRF code with a yellow tag at the back of the case near the driveshaft on the passanger side.

checked out the tranny!

I got under the car and I can see the yellow tag under there on the passenger side of the tranny! The TR is the only tranny that has the yellow tag or do I have to read the numbers on it to make sure it's for the TR?

In other words: Since the tag is yellow, I'm good??

When I get home I will pull the dust cover and see what converter is in there!

You have to read the code letters on the tag. Yellow tag with a 3 letter code means it's an 87'. It should have the code letters "BRF" on it.

yellow tag!

Gor under there and it is a BRF tranny so its the right one. I also took off the dust cover to look at the converter and it says D5 so its also the right converter but the damn car just wont sixty!!!!!

I went to the track last night again, built 3-4 LBS boost and it pushed so i got a red light! Next pass I didnt biuld any boost and as expected got a 2.53 sixty and a crappy 9.83 pass! HELP!!!
