Rattling sound like dieseling? If so check the timing chain. If it's worn and stretched it may be the cause of your problem. I had this same issue and swapped to a double roller. No more rattling noise.

Good Luck

have you checked you valve springs ???? i chased a knocking type noise at 4000 rpms for 6 months finally i check valve springs and they were shot !!! just peel off valve covers and put a spring tester on them !!!! maybe it will help !!!

check the PUCK and make sure it is not rattling... put a temp small spring on it or readjust it for short trip ... see if the sound is different

I took the DP off and noticed the Puck was very loose and slopy, and looked liked a possible source of the noise, but to my understanding and from asking my mechanic, the puck should be "sloopy/loose"

Whats your opinion...

Timing chain has play and hitting timing cover?
Flywheel cracked?
Starter bendix not retracting after starting?

Will be checking the flywheel, soon as I can get it back on the hoist.
I thought about the starter too. How can I check that though?

The heads are new and Champion set up the heads with valves and springs. Heads cant have more than 500-800 miles on them and Im assuming they set things up right especially for the price. lol

True it is loose and sloppy but what I was asking you to check was make sure that it was closing all the way. That is why I wanted you to add a spring or change the setting to see if the sound changes and if it does then that is it If it does not close all the way it will rattle. You can record the sound and put it on here so we can all hear it..I am not sure how to do it but someone one here can tell you how.

Ill change the setting and see what happens. Not sure how to add the spring? Im one of those show me what your talking about kinda guys. lol

Just another thought. Make sure that the drive shaft is not making contact with something under high load conditions (boost). Do you have a drive shaft loop? I had a similar noise once when i did not thoroughly retighten the transmission mount which resulted in the drive shaft contacting the exhaust.
