My powermaster is out on my '87 Buick t-type limited with 94.5K miles on it. My left leg is steadily becoming larger than the right leg. I can:

1: Buy a new powermaster unit from Kirban's for about $ 800, I believe, and have my mechanic put it in?

2: My mechanic said that he can convert to vacuum for around $ 600.00 using all new parts except one, of which I do not remember?

3: Are there any decent rebuilt units out there, who has them, how much are they, and have you guys had pretty good success with them?

4: Buick dealerships want $1200.00 for them, what a scream
5: any other ideas?

Thanks in advance

A1 Cardone rebuilt Powermaster system at Autozone for about $200.

Or else Red Regal T's used but good junkyard parts kit for vacuum.

Those would be my two choices.

Has anyone had any experience with the a1 cardone rebuilt powermaster unit as sold by Autozone. I would appreciate any feedback anybody has
Thanks in advance

I have bought about 6 units from Autozone, I haven't had any problems,it also comes with life time warranty. A complete rebuild unit for around $179.00. This is the best way to go.

good luck

I may have to agree here. Lifetime warranty is the bomb.

Another option:

Buy a PM rebuild kit from GM...about $40...get a new pump/motor
from Hank Terry...$150...if the pressure switch and accumulator are good then reuse them...so for $190 you can have new PM and you have no doubts as to how old the parts are that were used...with AutoZone and similar units...yes it is a lifetime warranty but who knows what parts they use...the pump/motor can't be new...Hank owns the original GM tooling...so those motors have most likely been sitting on a shelf somewhere for who knows how long...I'd rather have a reliable PM that I rebuilt myself...JMO...by the way I've rebuilt the units this way on both my TR's...one almost 2 years ago and the other last year...zero
problems since then...
