My car is acting up again, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out. My car started running crappy about two weeks ago. I went ahead and replaced O2 because I thought that was what was wrong. Then when that didn't fix it I hooked up the turbolink and it said MAF/MAP, so I got a new MAF and it helped but didn't cure the problem. I ran it on the T-link again and it still said (34) MAF/MAP. I thought the new MAF might have been a dud so I took it back and got another, and surprise, suprise the same thing. Any ideas?
It is running really fat at idle like 350-575 o2 mv's
Also I don't think it would affect it but, my battery has been leaking a bit lately.

Please help.

aside from running rich, what is the symptoms? what's it doing/not doing? SES light?

My car had a similar problem. The guys on this board were very helpful. My battery was also leaking. Here's what I found out: My alternator was overcharging and overheating my ignition module.
Once the car warmed up, it would run real rich, and finally die. I thought originally that it was my maf, too. Check the voltage coming out of your alternator. Since your battery is leaking, that's the first place I'd look.

Good luck.;)

Now with the new MAF it is running worse. I am getting a SES, it idles poorly, when I put it in gear it chugs like is going to die but doesn't, and when driving it is real sluggish and anything over1/4 throttle and it coughs and chugs real bad. I don't know about the battery because I'm getting the code 34 MAF/MAP. Thanks for the replies, keep them coming.

Those O2 numbers you said are lean, not rich. Make sure your MAF pipe is not leaking anywhere it is clamped; it could be letting unmetered air in. What are the actual MAF numbers on TurboLink? Did it pass the tap test? Also, how does your TPS setting look? That can set that code too. Those are my best stabs.

Thanks for the reply. I will check the MAF pipe for leaks in the morning. Yes it passes the tap test. 350-575 O2 counts at idle is lean? TPS is a little high I think it was aroung .54, would that set of the code? Thanks.

Actually it is rich for idle. The car should be in the 350 range at idle. If those were WOT numbers they would be terribly lean.

I see you have a volt booster so check the alternator output like TurboTIMMER said for that problem.

Have you reset your ECM? If not you will keep getting the same old code over and over.

Check the harness for the MAF. Your car sounds like it is running the exact same as mine when I removed both my MAF screens, or had it unplugged all together.

ACLR8R where in Higley are u. I could come over and try and help u trouble shoot. Let me know I'm in Gilbert just around the corner from u.:)

I will check the harness, and alternator when I get home. I have reset my ECM.
Whitettype86 I live on Greenfield and Chadler Blvd. Any help would be appreciated. You have a PM.

First, the TPS voltage is too high. Should be set between .42 and .45 depending on where your car likes it. Mine happens to like .43 for BLM readings of 120.

My o2s at idle are all over the place from 160 to 700's in idle. I thought they should be. Are'nt everybodies all over the place?

I don't think that's normal....

My O2s are all over the place too, but from what I've seen on gnttype.org they should be between .350 and .550. In my case I can smell that the car is running WAY too rich. I'm chasing gremlins at this point...

O2 sensor dying maybe? Are o2 cross counts often enough? Vacuum leak?
Good Luck

I haven't really mest with it for a while now because it was pissing me off. I adjusted the TPS, IAC, and changed the plugs. It will idle fairly well but as soon as I put it in gear the idle gets all rough and it wants to die, if I put it back in park it stays the same until I give it some gas then the idle shoots up to about 2000 rpm's then settles back down to normal. Could this be a vacuum leak? Any other ideas?

Thanks

Where did u get your Maf sensor? I had the same problem and had to go threw 4 Maf sensor to get the right one. I had to get one threw the dealership. The ones from Autozone, checkers, are not the right ones there remanufactered and don't read right. Trust me it sounds to still be your Maf.
