I am stuck!!!

I just replaced my stock rear brake shoes with the larger set from Postons. My 2 problems are :

1) I couldn't get the drum to go back on so I banged it on for about 5 mins. Once it was on, I cannot rotate the axel any more. And now, I cannot get the darn thing off again. Do I drive it around the block to break it in?? Or will that build heat and ruin something?? I figure after it is on and I drive it, the softer shoes will give some and everything will be fine. Did anyone else have this problem?

2) I hit the brake pedal and then realized that the other drum was off. The cylinder pushed out and I lost a little fluid. Is this cylinder ruined now?? Or can I just drive it as is. It looks fine but how can I test it for leaks??

Also, I did turn the adjust all the way in - so that isn't the problem.

You now need to bleed the brake system after blowing out the wheel cylinder.

Do NOT drive it around the block IMHO.

Sounds like the dia of the shoes was too big for the drum that you pounded on them. May need a wheel puller to evenly pull on the drum will help it come off.

Wish you good luck on it.

Too Late!

I just drove it around the block 5 times and everything seems fine so far. I actually let the car run in gear (on jack and 2 jack stands) in the garage before I did my around the block runs. Looks like letting it run in the air first helped. I hear some noise at first but everything settled and then seemed to run fine. After that, I took it around the block for a spin.

So far no leak at the cylinder and the pedal feels fine - maybe I will be able to get by without the bleeding until I upgrade my cylinders to the S-10s.

I will check for a leak tomorrow - hope I get lucky.

Thanks,
Brandon
