Being new to turbos, I need help here. Ok, I picked up my car in NH last night. Trailer it back. Got it home here in VA Beach and decied to take it for a drive, of course. The factory boost gauge went 2 bars into the red and the car stuttered a few times. I did not know what this was so I did it again and had the same thing happen. What is the deal with it?

i guess the stock boost gauge is the only one in the car. could be over boosting. any codes?

nope, no codes. Why would it over boost? Car has been sitting off and on for the last several years if that helps. Not long enough for the plates to expire but it wasnt a daily driver with the people I got it from. The woman who drove it was in her early 40's. I dont think she was hard on it.

could overboost easily if one of the 7/32 small rubber hoses on the compressor housing or the wastegate or the wastegate solenoid blew off, rotted, or has a leak-

that or the wastegate rod is turned too far, that is if its adjustable-

get a aftermarket boost gauge, scan tool, find out what chip is in it ect

thanks brian. chip is not stock, wastegate rod is not adjustable
I will check for the obvious then that you mentioned on the WG tomorrow.

Make sure you have good gas in it. You may have been knocking which retarded the timing.

Do you have a scan tool to monitor WOT blasts? If not, better good one soon and read about the cars some more or your next question is going to be about "How to change head gaskets".

I filled it up with 93 and bought some +10 octane booster.
I found that it had an ATR Pit Bull chip in it. I also found the stock chip in the glovebox nad put it back in. Problem solved. No more overboost or cutting out.
thanks for all your inouts

take that pit bull chip and run 104 sunoco with it if you ever hit the track-

with all the free mods, you could hit 12s on radials with that chip...
i know a friend who used that chip and really liked it-
just too much timing for pump gas

So I take it its not a crappy chip. Well thats good. I was loking for the free mods and cant find them. Anyone have a link or the list?

Just a quick FYI, dont buy octain booster; its worthless. The stuff at autozone (i.e. 0-60, NOS octain booster, etc) will only raise the octain several tenths, not ten points.

As for the turbo, make sure to check all of the vac hoses and be sure that they are conected and have no cracks. That could be your problem.
