There has got to be a reason for the ticking noise on my cam sensor, it is very noticeable when cold and quiets down when warm. It is a new sensor and I am sure it is coming from that (used stethoscope to detect).
So, what is causing it. The cam sensor cannot be making that noise unless something is contact inside on the rotating ring (unlikely). It must be in the gears then, they are new gears with some slight filing to remove burrs. Could a tooth mis-match or slight high spot cause this?
What if there was too much play in the gearshaft bore in the timing cover?
I am going to pull out sensor and remove pump cover to try and determine source of noise. So looking for ideas.
Please let me know what could be the cause. Thanks

I had the same thing but I retorqued the hold down bolt to the proper setting and the noise stopped. Mine must have been overtightened..

Mark, if that is the case what is the torque setting? I wonder what the difference would be though since if the housing shoulder is seated don't know why it would quiet it down. I'm glad it worked for you.
Any other recommendations?

Not sure why it worked, but it did. I thought the same thing. I don't have the manual here now but I would just try it with it only snugged up a little and see what happens.

Did you check to see if it needs shimmed or the little tab broke for the cup inside?

How do I know if it needs shimmed? What do I look for and what are the shims if I need to install. I will be pulling it out to check it out as well as the oil pump gears.
Thanks to anyone who can add to this post.
