All:

If I install a larger throttle body (such as an Accufab 70mm) do I need to do anything with the throttle cable to ensure that the butterfly opens all the way or is it pretty much plug and play?

TIA
Rich

Mine was plug and play. I had to readjust the TV cable (but it was probably off before).

Taz....

After you installed the TB, was the TV cable way off? Was it shifting early or late?

Just curious as I'm a little nervous about fooling around with the TB, I figure I'll give it a shot.

I'm gonna do that matched set that PTE sells - it's a polished accufab plenum and TB.

It shifted a little late. It's a snap to adjust the TV cable. My 8 year old could do it if I let her. Just pull the cable back in the housing, reconnect it, and floor the gas pedal (with car off of course). Just follow the instructions on gnttype.org. Replacing the TB and plenum is pretty simple really.

To remove the throttle cable from the TB, you pull the cable end towards the rad...any other direction and you will running a plastic end on your new cable from GM only. If you disconnect the entire cable bracket [you must] you won't be changing the TV cable setting from where it was with the old TB/upper. Have someone mash the the pedal to the floor for you with the up-pipe removed to confirm that the plate is 90°/fully open before buttoning it all up. Words from those wiser than I are that more than half of these cars do NOT open fully w/o some work.

I'm thinking you'll at least want to RAISE TV as you'll be flowing more air at a lower throttle positions. Meaning you're making MORE power on LESS TV which might cause the trans to slip. I remember Bruce telling me the TV system, as good as it is, was a shortcoming in a turbo car because they make so much power at low throttle positions. I think I'd at least raise it a click or two tighter than stock. Just to be safe

Jim:

When you say "raise TV", I assume you mean adjust the TV so it shifts just a hair earlier, correct?

By the way, let me know when the garage is all set up. I'd like you to take this thing for a quick spin around the block.

Thanks!
Rich

Actually, I mean a click or two towards the firewall, raising pressure.

My garage is set up, (painted... one of my workbenches is still at the old place) car is home, gonna pull the heads cuz I dont know WHEN the hell my motor will be done. Kinda frustrating that had I known, I'd have done them last winter and been able to actually drive the car over the summer.

Ahh well, it'l happen one of these days.
