having a problem here......84 gn runs good but runs like a 6 cyl...boost guage i hear is crap anyway but i only get 1 bar light up when getting on the car....how can i tell if my wastegate is operating properly......very new to these cars just bought the car about 2 months ago.....also sounds like a howling dog when i let off the gas when the car is in park if i rev it up...not terribly loud but just seems wierd......please help...i wish one of you guys was in florida so i could have another hotair owner who knows more than me take a look at this....how critical is the vacuum hose layout to making boost?......i think my hoses may be all screwed up....tried printing a schematic from gnttype but not much luck switchin things around.....any help would be greatly appreciated........thanks in advance guys.....

the howling dog? I like that description . That sound is your turbo so we can assume your waste gate is working too. You probably need a boost gauge or scan tool to tell if it's working properly.

You don't need a hotair specialist to look at your car, if they are familiar with the intercooled version they can probably help you out quite a bit since there are more similarities than differences. There are some of the best TR mechanics in FL .

If you can't get the diagrams to print and have a fax, pm me and I'll fax you a copy.

Does the engine look stock?

Not sure if I understood all the statements you made because there was no punctuated sentences to help the part about the noise was a bit unclear to me.

if im sittin in my car in the driveway runnin.......if i rev it up pretty good i hear like a howling...........and in gear on the road it sounds almost like when i get on the car sounds like all the air is leaking out or something......i hate sounding like an idiot.......lol...i pmed you with my fax # if you could fax the schematic for me.......i really appreciate your help thanks......joe

thanks alot i got the fax.....similar to what i have from gnttype....i will give a try again....i appreciate it........also is it common for the wastegates to go bad?....im hopin thats all it is.....im gonna keep my fingers crossed...thanks again

new problem

now have turbo creating boost and feels great....but....now when i put the peddle down all the way the car pulls hard but then i start to get a pretty audible knock.....am i creating to much boost?...is my adjustable fuel pressure reg set to low?...i have the fuel set at 42 lbs at idle......what would cause the knock....i have a brand new coil pack and module new plugs and wires. hopefully this is a simple fix.....any help would be greatly appreciated im pullin my hair out over here ,,,,,,,, thanks in advance
