Seriously, an experienced thief can be in your TR/GN and gone in literally under 1 minute. Unless you have a kill switch or other theft deterrent.

Tow Trucks and flat beds can take any car or truck.
I had a F150 4x4 extended cab pickup truck when I left my ex, she found out where I was living and one night I woke up and my truck was gone, I called the police and they said go to court, nothing they can do, since the truck title was in both our names, she had the right to take it. Then one night, time goes by, while she was visiting her sister, I took my truck back and parked it in my dads garage (the police were called and confronted me about the taking the truck, I denied what they were talking about and told them to arrest me or get out of my face). Later, I had the ignition changed. Ownership is determined by who has it in their garage. Well, I decided to use it one night and parked the truck at friends house with a very long driveway with front wheels turned and the club locked on steering wheel. My friends girlfriend called and said my ex was there with tow truck and explained what was happening. My ex girlfriend hired a flat bed truck and they literally pulled it out of the driveway, then drove around and hauled it away, AGAIN for the 2nd time. So I decided at that point to fire my attorney and told her I would milk him and her for every minute and hour they wanted to make this about who is right and wrong and who gets what, the attorney said I had a point and that he would bill her for every minute and every hour the issues went back and forth. Great thing about this is when we settled, the club was still on the truck in her garage and could not be driven until I unlocked my club, but the ignition was changed as well. People will do anything and spend anything to get what they want, especially a woman scorned and crazy local. Needless to say I had to settle becuz word got out that her daughters not related to me said they were going to tell the police I molested them if I didn't settle. Humans will lie and cheat to get their way... I ran from that and never looked back... C4 was all over those bridges... cut your losses when you can.

Well, I got a story about that. Back in the day (18 yrs or so ago) I was driving down the road in my old truck with a couple of buddies. Being in our early 20's, we were prone to do stupid stuff.
I know, I'm prolly the only one on here that has done things of that nature.
Long story short...a buddy reaches over and turned off the key going down this country backroad. So therefore the engine shuts off, which is not the worse thing, the steering wheel locks. Being the big ole boy that I am, I just gave the wheel a good jerk and broke the pin right off that locks the steering wheel. With that being said, NO, the factory wheel lock will not stop a thief. All he has to do is turn the wheel with a little force and it will break the pin that holds the wheel locked. HTH...

Locked wheels or open windows and locked.
It does NOT matter what you use, a tow truck or flat bed will move any car or vehicle, period.
Locked steering wheel also kept owners from using their own vehicle too... piece of **** theft deterrent..

I really loved the locking steering wheels when towing the car (with a tow truck) from behind. Just turn the wheels straight, and lock the steering. In the old days, I would have to wrap the seat belt through the steering wheel or tie it off with a rope and roll the window up. THAT is why they made locking columns........Just for tow truck drivers.

The older cars without the headlamp dimmer on the steering column used real metal on the column housing. It took a lot of effort to break them. But you could still break them if you tried hard enough. Back than nobody knew that was going to be the easy way to steal a car. Some of the later trucks 88-9? vintage have a metal collar molded into the housing. I thought steering wheel locks were a safety thing. They came along about the same time as the column mounted neutral safety switch.
No, it just keeps "good" people from stealing your car.

"specially when you had the local punks doin' the damage, to get more business. Kinda like owning a glass shop and driving around your area breaking windows at night.

Since we're on the topic of theft....what about those tire locks? Like the ones parking enforcement use on your car if you're illegally parked? I know they sell some more friendly "civilian" models. Think those are pretty effective?
