Hi all, first post here. I have an 85 GN bone stock i've been working on for a while. The car had been sitting for 13 years, and now it's up and running....however im having an issue when I drive the car wide open throttle (floor it) it hesitates like it's hitting the rev limiter. I haven't had it out for a good drive nor has it seen speeds over 50km as i can't take it off the street quite yet. I've changed the plugs, air filter, new tank and walboro fuel pump...basically a spring time tune up, and im still having this issue. The car still doesn't run top notch, but was wondering if this could be a bad sensor or something?..any input would help.

Thanks

What scantool are you using?
Do you have a boost/KR gage?
How much boost/rpm when it hessitates?
What type of plugs/gap?
What is the condition of the ignition module and coil pack?
Have you set the TPS/IAC?
What chip?
What is the condition of the O2 sensor?
What are the grounds like?
What is the battery voltage?
What is the condition of the MAF?
Are the injectors clean?
Any mechanical noises?
Any exhaust leaks?

Start there . . . . .

have not dove that deep into it yet..plugs are gapped at .035. I was hoping and praying for a quick answer.. It was more of a shot in the dark question.. Im on a limited budget, so no scan tool to check yet, and no one to help

thanks

Get a scan tool first or borrow one. This is needed so you can find out what is wrong with your car. Anything else is just guessing. This leads to unnecessary spending which is throwing money at your car with no results. Brad

If you can't or don't want to invest in a scanner, carry the 'Spring time tune-up' theme a little farther. The problem could be related to fuel/ignition. (or both or something else) I suggest replacing the plug wires for starters. Next, confirm that your coil pack is performing up to spec. There's info on this website plus gnttype.org. Assuming the coil pack is fine, confirm that your fuel press. regulator is functioning correctly. (do you have a fuel press. gauge?) Replace the fuel filter if you haven't done it already. Try these and let us know what the results are. Good luck.

Use an Ohm meter to verify spark plug wires and coil pak. All wires should ohm out within 10% of each other. The three coils on the coil pak should ohm out between 11-13 ohms. Any results not within these ranges idicates bad wire(s) or coil pak. Spark plug gap at .35 is fine as well as .45. Lower gap is better the higher the boost. The best way to test fuel pressure is to place a fuel pressure gauge taped to the windshield and see the pressure rise as boost rises. Another test for the MAF is to tap it while the car is idling. Any change will indicate bad MAF.

The most likely problem is with your MAF or ignition(coil PAK, coil module, spark plug wires). Post back. Brad

I'm suprised no one has asked yet. Where you located? One of us may be near you and be able to help.

thanks for the replies. I will look into it when i get a chance..im located an hour north of Toronto ON

Post a "help me" in the Canada section. I'm sure you'll find someone that can help you.

ok guys, after much research it seems as though a lot of people have had this issue, and it tends to be a problem with the ignition module..I tested the coil pack and I think it is fine. My question now is how do I test the module, and where can i find a replacement if I need one?

After more research I now find that its' next to impossible to find a replacement ignition module for a HA gn, so now i'll have to upgrade to the 86/87 module, coil pack and get the harness from caspers...FML
