I'm still yelling to take that Accel coil pack off. Might NOT be an issue now, but it will be in due time.

Update: after 3 MAF Sensors we finally got one that works. Car idles fined runs great with no check engine light or codes from scan. Only issue now is backfiring, especially on the highway when you gun it. it backfires 1 or 2 times and then takes off like a rocket. it also feels like it has a high speed miss.

That could be anything. I'd get a scan tool on there to eliminate sensors and strap a fuel pressure guage to the windshield and see if that is up to snuff. Don't wanna make it have the big boom over something stupid.

Backfiring...its the accell coil pack. You could probably buy two tt chips for the price if that jet. Toss it.

Damn I'm glad I bought the coil and module that I did. SHit works great. Almost went the accel route

I have ordered a ttweaks chip. just waiting on it to arrive. Talked to a guy with an 86 Grand National and told him about my backfiring and hard starting problems and he said he had the same problem with his and it was his cam sensor. He had to reset or realign it and his problem was solved. So thats the next thing to check on this car. Wow alot of neg responses to the Accel coil.

if u aint got an ohm meter, pull a wire off while running, one ata a time.if it dont change idle thats an issue.

I wouldn't do that...I got the crap shocked out of me from doing that same thing.

If anything you could pull a wire start the car. Then shut it off and pull a different one.

I would take a few minutes and read through the various posts on this forum regarding tuning a TurboT.

There are many many things that can and do go wrong with these cars.

For example I could not run my car knock free without a new fuel pump (and not just any fuel pump) and a hotwire kit.

One thing I've come to realize is that it is not possible to own, drive or tune one of these cars without a scanmaster.

You have no idea how the engine is performing without it. You have no idea if you are lean, rich, vacuum leaks, or experiencing knock / detonation. etc. Based on all the reading I've done, the one weakness, if you want to call it that, within these motors are the head gaskets. if you are running knock, which means pre-detonation, your compression will go through the roof and you'll blow a head gasket. You can't hear it and you can't see it, but it maybe there, it is the silent killer of head gaskets.
You are likely going to or maybe already have hurt the car and have no idea that you have / are.
The money is well spent and I did it right away and it was by far the best money spent.
I highly recommend you spend your next dollars on a scanmaster, nothing else really matters until you get that sorted out.
I compare it to trying to become a better athlete by spending money on new equipment rather than first spending money on a great coach.
You are flying blind.
My 2 cents,
Joel

received my Turbo Tweaks Chip yesterday. Holy crap there is like 6 pages of instructions that came with it. Do I or will I have to do all these adjustment & checks on the car after I install it?? I am really starting to hate all these f'ing sensors, ECM's, etc, etc with this car.. Give me OLD school anyday!!! Also the http://www.nos4gn.com/servlet/StoreFront is closed for Maintenance.

You will not get far without a scantool, not trying to be a pain in the neck and I'm about as new to this stuff as you can get, but in order for a turbo car to run well and healthily all of the sensors and the like are important to keep things running as they should, most are there for a good reason, maybe not all.
Don't know how you'd adjust chip without scantool??
You are likely to hurt your car sooner rather than later if you don't have visibility into what is going on.
good luck either way,
Joel

I've had good luck with the Accel coil packs from Jegs. I guess I am in the minority. Change your O2 if you have not already that can cause the backfiring/popping noise you hear.

On the MAF I recommend Kirban Performance.

The best thing for you to do is to read on how to install the ScanMaster (very simple installation), get the engine warm up and write down the ScanMaster numbers and then post them on board. Many members can read and analyze the numbers and can tell you what you need to do to correct if any.

Kevin you don't have to make any adjustments to the chip just put it in. You will need a scan master to do any adjustments on the chip but you don't have to. Make sure you unplug the ECM (under the hood out near the battery) before you change chips.

You got 2 choices; learn about your car or sell it and play with your Daytona and Shadow (both of which have sensors and ECMs, etc). If you don't learn about your car it will never run well and in all likelyhood you will blow it up and sell it for peanuts.

X2 either you tune or someone must if you wish to reap long term reliability. Fast cars aren't just slapped together , there is a bunch of work that goes into good numbers.
