Sorry for the rude welcoming but with the circumstances surrounding such a post and the sour taste that had been left in somepeople's mouths by the name thing then it was to be expected.
Members usually wonder, "How did you find a board?, If you have had the car for awhile then why are you just now joining? What was the reasoning for the post?" etc..... Most people's reason for first coming to these boards is that they are looking for information. That means that they either just bought a car or they are having problems and are looking for answers. The first couple of post are usually either a "Hi, I'm new. I just bought..." or "Why is my car???" type of post.
Your post was a proclamation. Plain and simple, it was free advertising. That kind of posting immediately throws up a flag. You know, the "I'll fix your car for free but you need to go here and tell them what a great job I did" type. You may have been totally innocent and just happy to have your car fixed but then we question why haven't we heard from you before? Your post just came across a little "fishy" or should I say "duckie", i.e. Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and swims then it's not a chicken.
Vendors on the board here pay for advertising so it's only right that the board be protective of them and their turf. They also happen to be friends to many of the members here. They have proven themselves over time and when it is felt that one has been slighted, people take offense. The name thing, IMO, is one that is up for debate. The widow didn't want the name used and you have to wonder about Joe's motive. Did he really want to use the name to honor Eric or was it because of the reputation and years of advertising the business already had? Either way, Dynotech is more well know than Joe's GN shop.
When ever I join a new board, I usually lurk for a while to try to get a feel for what is going on. I don't know how much time you've spent on boards but from my experience this is one of the nicest communities on the web. Many of the places I've gone have been far less friendly and forgiving. Despite the rocky start, if you hang around long enough and give this place an honest chance, I think you will find that true too.
Welcome to the board.
Thanks for this reply, and your 100% right. I have been to many boards in the past and present, from cars and even political. Both my brother in laws have political boards but with added things on there. Politics not too much my interest.
Let me first say, yes, the way I came on here might have been the wrong way without saying hello, my name is John and whatever usually else would come with that, so sorry for this. I have gone to turbobuicks.com and have just recently found this board. I did let it be known that I wanted to give thanks to people that worked on my car with no other intentions with this. A little over a year ago, my wife purchased me the Grand National as a gift for Christmas. I bought one back in the 80's and had to return it for my deposit, since it would cost me $5000 in car insurance. Now, being in my 40's I can afford the insurance. Not one week after having the car, my Wife took it out and thinking she was Mario, she thought it would be cute to take on a Mustang, not knowing that in doing so, she was about to experience blowing a head gasket. The nightmare begins there, taking to a local shop, without thinking about taking to a GN specialist, we brought it to a local shop. All seemed great after spending over 900 to fix, however a week after that I find out I have a blown engine. Knowing this it was time to find what we thought an expert to fix this car, go online and check out some boards that could suggest someone, yeah, that's where Ron Joseph came into it.
Though he doesn't have his shop anymore, he suggest a place called
Better Auto Care in kenilworth, NJ - long story short as I can, they explained there after the car getting there that head gasket was found in my oil pan and I had a blown engine, as well as, turbo. The other shop agreed to file a claim and have that taken care of. Yeah, all done, but, after putting on the 100 miles they claimed for me to do and come back to add boost, suddenly I have a blown blower, no a/c, no heat AND my transmission went, funny, all worked before bringing car back for boost. You can understand how fed up I was now and how hearing from others about cables not being adjusted right, leaks in turbo, etc... Funny thing is the mechanic there had mentioned to us to take the car to Dynotech and you will have a working awesome car, and yes, this is before Eric had passed on, unfortanately the funds ran out and had to wait. This is when I hear from another board that Eric had passed on and i thought, well, what now, another person mentioned Dave Hudak, took that advice and he did the transmission early this month and another mentioned that Dynotech was still running to take the car there, I did. Going through what I went through and after a year to finally have a car that is right the way I bought it, who wouldn't be thrilled? this is the only reason I posted what I did, and without any disrespect to Eric, understand, I didn't have the pleasures of dealing with him, and only knew what I knew.
The horror story is even more detailed, but I tried to make it as simple as I can without taking up room here. No intentions of spamming, hell, my Wife can handle that without being on a board, but that wasn't the deal here, just like I said "A thanks were I thought credit was due" that was it.
I don't know all the stories on Dynotech, honestly, they are not for me to comment since I was not here or knew of any of this, which leaves it as none of my business, however, my condolences to Eric's Wife for her loss.
I don't wish to come on to a board and stir or feel threatened myself by people for posts that might be made, but I will admit that the post should have came differently in this case and could be man enough to apologize for having some feel any wrong doing being done, again, not the intentions those might have thought.
Thanks!
