HID Fog Lights

Has anyone upgraded their H3 fog lights to H3 HID's? If so, what kit did you use or where did you get it? I have been scouring the internet and haven't found a set that look compatible with TTA wiring harness.

I did buy the plug and play SUPER WHITE H3 Xenon HID Foglights Bulbs Fog Lights 2 #32067254278 on ebay for $10. No ballast, just the bulb and it replaces the OEM bulb. They are 8500K. They don't look like HID, but the light is a much brighter White light than the stock bulbs. I had them in for one week and one burned out. Lifetime warranty and a replacement bulb is already on it's way, but I don't want to have to replace these all the time. Had to try for $10 but I would rather have the HID look to the fog lights to match my HID headlights. I got these online at xtralights.com and they look awesome. It is a specific kit for the 89 trans am.

A true HID/Xenon kit requires a ballast and the correct bulb. You will not get an HID kit for $10.

I have used custom HID conversions, HID kits, LED, CCFL specialists - retrosolutions in the past with great results. I have their Digital kit on my truck in the high, low, and fog position and also have them in my sisters Jeep. H3 DIGITAL HID kit LIFETIME WARRANTY

I run the harness, delay relay, and capacitor they offer. For the TTA I would just run the harness. 22 year wiring will have resistance.

If you want OEM quality get the Matsu****a Ballasts from the retrofit source. I used them for a project I am currently working on. The whole lighting kit for the car was around $900, but OEM quality can not be beat. There is something to be said for it. The Japanese make the best ballasts and bulbs far and away.

Any other questions just post...I have researched more about ballasts and bulbs then I care to share...lol

Thanks. Great advise. I just ordered a set for the fogs. The cheap bulbs are definitely whiter and brighter, but no HID's and one bulb already burned out in one week. They are sending a free replacement pack since it was a lifetime warranty, but who wants to change their fog lights every week. I will give an update and pics when installed. Hopefully next week.

UPDATE

I just got my H3 HID fog lights and tried to install them myself. NO GO. They are suppose to be plug and play but they don't work with the TTA 89 fog light plugs. They are H3 bulbs and the H3 Bulb will fit in the fog receptacle, but the rest of the HID wiring and plugs are not compatible with the stock wiring and plugs. Plus, there is one opening where the stock wiring enters the back of the fog light housing, I guess you would have to cut this out but the new HID wiring and plugs would not fit through that hole so you would have to modify the back of the fog light housing. Then I wanted to use the direct battery harness and you only have to hook one plug to just one of the factory harnesses for control of both of the fog HID's from the inside panel switch, but that plug was not compatible with the stock harness either. I am going to take it to get them professionally installed this week and see if they can figure it out. I don't want to start messing with the electrical system. The xenon replacement bulbs only, no ballast, that I bought are much whiter and look good, not yellowish like the stock halogen bulbs, but not near as bright as the HID's. I really want my fogs to match my headlights. I got the replacement bulb and installed that today for now, let's just hope they last longer than a week this time. I'll let you know if the pro's can install the HID fog later this week.

If anyone has installed HID's in their fog's, please let me know how you did it and any advise.

HID Fogs and Headlights Final Update

FINAL UPDATE:

Finally, TTA #613 is renovated and ready for Spring/Summer of 2011, now it just has to get here, let's hope it starts tomorrow. I had to call my electrical/wiring expert in to help me with the HID fogs, not a 30 minutes easy job for me. First he had to mod the fog housing, not much but had to manipulate the black light deflector some for the length of the HID H3 bulbs to fit in the housing/holder, next he had to modify the wiring harness where female to female plugs could not mate, this is where I got stumped, It took him a bit longer weaving the wires and working around the spoilers, but had it done in 2 hours, he was busy with other stuff too, so he probably could have done it quicker if he was solely focused on this task. SO YES, it can be done. The fogs are HID and super bright, these were the 35watt type, not 55 and the color is suppose to match the headlights, 6000K Diamond Blue, which is bright white with just a hint of blue in both the headlights and fogs. The headlights have the blue tint, but not the fogs, but just being picky. The fogs are so bright that you don't even need the headlights. I think they are actually brighter than the stock halogen headlights. I love driving with them on during the day too, like the CCFL on the newer cars these days. Here are some pics.
