Lately my car has been acting wierd..mainly when I first start it (I'll crank it and it'll seem like it's going to start but then doesnt, and I have to give it some gas while cranking it to get it to start), during idle, and also when I get on it a bit and less off sometimes the RPMs will drop and I'll stall.. I noticed that during Idle my IAC counts are in the 100's!! But the wierd thing is that one time I'll go out there and they'll be in the 100s, next time in the 80's, another time in the 60's and another in the 150's. Can these problems all be causes by the IAC counts?? It was wierd because this suddenly happened one day that I left school (at this point I had no idea that the IAC counts were this high, but I know in the past they were always where they shouldve been, like around 25-30 at idle. Another wierd thing was the other day I went outside, started it drove it and it did the wierd start and stalled a couple times while driving it...then a few hours later, started it, drove it around w/no problems and BAM the IACs were around 25 at idle..so I figure the problem's fixed..NOPE I go out there the next day and they're back in the 100's..I just let it idle for about 10 minutes and just before I shut it down the IACs were in the 150's....What is goin on and what do I do???

I did do that and each time I did it it would lower the IACs about 10 counts each time I did it and I got it down to the 60s but it wouldnt stay there..they'd be right back up there the next time I start it..

Maybe the valve is sticking? Might wanna take it out and have a look. I replaced mine with an autocrap unit, but I have heard if you have to replace it to go to the dealer.

I think one of my dad's friends works for a buick dealer, so maybe I'll talk to him about this.
Could it be anything else though?

Might wanna check the housing the valve goes into, make sure theres not a crack there. Good luck bud, let us know how you make out.

My IAC was going crazy like that.. It was a broken exhaust spring. Good luck.

High IAC count

I had the same problem and the IAC was bad. I would adjust it and the next day it would change. I finally replaced the IAC and no more problems Hope this helps

I just had the same problem with my car. It ended up being a bad maf. with the car at idle, tap with the head of a screwdriver. If it stumbles then it is no good.

Word for word...

...I could have written the same post. To the tee, your problem is exactly like the one I had. Consider your problem solved: buy a new IAC.

I did do the MAF test and I didnt get any stumbling..So what am I doing? Buying a new IAC Valve like from Kirbans, Part # 6601 for $45??
How long does it take to remove/install?

Problem Solved..

Went to Pep Boys and got an IAC, put it in and the cars is much better. IACs are now in the high 30's -low40's at idle..should I do the reset procedure?? (What exactly would that do?)
Thanks for all of your help..hopefully this is the last of my problems for a while.

High IAC counts

Go to gnttype.org they have the IAC adjustment proceedure. You want to get it in the 20's for good idle. Remember to make small adjustments and wait a few minutes to let the car computer adjust itself. Hope this helps
