Any negatives to this? I was thinking about picking up a restalled d5 beings they seem to go really cheap used. I also have the motor and tranny out of the car so I was thinking it would be a good time to do it while the whole car is tore apart. I plan on upgrading turbo, but not until I max out the stocker. Car will only be driven on the street with occasional horseplay.

I wouldn't change the converter until after you do your mods. No point in spending money on a converter until you know what you need.

If you lock it at the track then I'd restall it so when you got a bigger turbo you'd be happier with the spool up.

I ask about the locking because when you bend the stator fins to get more stall out of it the top end efficiency drops off, but locking the clutch would negate that.

Would there be a negative effect of installing a 2600 with a pretty much stock motor with a step up cam (204-214 I think) and some port work on heads? Would it even be worth installing or getting for that matter? Even once I do get a bigger turbo would it make a difference?
