well i just bought the car a week ago, and i notice that when i floor it, the car wont shift to second unless i back off the throttle it seems like. the tach will go all the way to like 6 grand sometimes, im not too sure if the tach is reading wrong or what. but it will hold the gear until i get off it seems like even if im not at WOT it will hold the gear longer than its supposed to. i also dont know if it has a shift kit in it or not but when it shifts, it shifts hard, way harder than my other one used to. any help or advice woudl be appreciated. thanks

More info would be helpful.

Turbo Buicks were made from 1978 through 1987. And then there's the 1989 TTA. And even though this is TurboBuick.com, folks have been known to discuss Blue Oval and Bowtie vehicles here as well. So I won't venture to guess what you're driving or what transmission is in it. :p

Anyhow, IF you're talking about a 200-4R, you may have either slung a governor spring off or have a mis-matched governor/valve body setup.

also i dont know if this is related of not, but when the car is in 4th, i almost have to floor it to get it to downshift. like the motor will be lugging and it wont downshift unless i give it a lot of gas. the trans has 100K on it i beleive i dont really know the history of it because i just bought it the other week and the previous owner doesnt know either. any help would be appreciated, i'm going to check the TV cable first chance i get but until then im open to suggestions, i just want it to shift at 5 grand when i'm at WOT. thanks

Anyone other input on this shifting problem? I am experiencing the same thing now. Will not shift into 2nd at WOT or normal driving unless I ease off throttle. At normal driving it shifts if I ease off the throttle (and I mean just the slighest reduction in pedal pressure) but only after it goes over 3K RPMs. Once it shifts in 2nd, everything else works perfect, including OD, LU and even the 2-1 downshift. The governor spring is still intact and the valve body is untouched since a Stageright was installed years ago. Just happened suddenly at the track one night.

ok well i adjusted the TV cable and it helped with part throttle shifting. but when i floor it, the car will still wind out to 6K on the tach. and the kickdown still sucks too if that matters.
