It looks like it is an 8 hole, what year is it for? My 1987 G/N has 9 holes.

I wouldn't say it's the wrong lettering it's just a different scrip as the 8 hole was GM's second version of the hood pad( and surely done by a different company) and yes different than an original 9 holer.

There are two versions of hood insulators with lettering. One has the original lettering and the other has different lettering than the original.
