I have a fresh paint job on my '85 GN that has been in the work for a couple of years now. Is there a possibility of the turbo damaging the paint if I don't have any insulation under the hood? Thank you.

I would definitely insulate it

With exhaust temps at WOT in the 1400 - 1600 degree range and the turbo might be 3 inches away from the hood with it closed I would find something. Either that or have your exhaust housing thermal coated or get a turbo thermal wrap from PTE.

Just my opinion,

Jerry Berger Jr.

^^^ Gonna agree with Jerry on this one. Get a pad for it and you shouldn't have any problems with the paint.

Diddo. When I bought my last GN it had no insulation and the paint was bubbled pretty bad right over the turbo. It'll definately damage the paint if left unprotected. After a run down the street you couldn't hold your hand on the hood directly over the turbo because of the heat.

We not only found the original hot air hood liner we lined it with foil to keep the heat from blistering the paint. With the turbo sitting so close to the hood you need the insulation or risk having your new paint ruined.
