I'm getting ready to install my powerlogger and would like to log EGT's . I already have the EGT probe hooked up to an Autometer Pro Comp pyro gauge but would like to be able to log it also. What do I need to do this ? Thanks Sam

If your Autometer pyro gauge does not have an analog output you will have to buy something. You can run your existing EGT probe to a converter ($19) and from the converter to the powerlogger but then your gauge won't work. I got an AEM EGT gauge with analog output so it will read on the gauge and also send a 0.5 to 4.5 volt signal to the powerlogger so I can log EGT also.

I'll have to check the gauge for analog out ,if not I was wondering if I could parallel the converter & gauge to have both ??

It looks like there is a connector that plugs in to the back of the gauge with no analog out , So does anyone know if I can parallel off the probe wires on the connector to a converter an then attach to the powerlogger ?? Thanks..Sam

That is usually not a good idea. The type K thermocouple wires in the probe are both made of different and special material. If you had type K thermocouple wire it might have a chance of working that way. The unmodified thermocouple signal is very small, millivolts, and can be messed up easy. I have not had any luck with splitting a thermocouple signal in that way, did not seem to work. You could get a dual thermocouple probe but that is probably expensive.

Thanks Brian... I'm familiar with thermocouples from our injection molding equipment at work but never tried splitting the signal to to different devices. Is it worth it to log EGT's ?? If so I'll lose the pyro gauge in the A pillar pod and replace it with something else , maybe a gauge that keeps track of how much I spend on this car !!

You need an EGT amplifier. I think I have the link bookmarked at home -- however, the site won't sell to me, so maybe you'll have better luck. I'll try and remember to post that link tonight. Turbo Bob had given it to me on Full Throttle's tech site some time ago.

I DID find it. O2simulator.com. I can't get to the site from work, but it does work on my phone. "Exhaust gas temperature k-type thermocouple adapter $35.00"

The money gauge would be depressing! I hardly look at my EGT gauge unless it is at curise speed on the highway. On a wide open throttle pass I have to look at the road. That is why I log O2, fuel pressure, boost, and EGT. I just got my EGT going and like it so far. It is another good piece of data to look at to use in tuning. They have that EGT amplifier at http://www.3rdbrakeflasher.com/inde...id=185&zenid=735c3ebdae808bbbcd0976d0da07b8b3 for $19. Lots of race cars log EGT so it must be useful data. Some have individual cylinder EGT to balance the cylinders but that is probably way overkill for us.
