I just had a new tranny and stall converter (art carr) put in a couple months ago. Tonight while driving, this grinding noise started coming from the flywheel area. Here are the symptoms
Idle in any gear - no noise
Park and step on gas - grinding noise
Forward gear and step on gas - grinding noise and the car does not move
Reverse gear and step on gas - griding noise and the car does not move
The grinding noise sounds like if you put a gear on a drill and spun it against a piece of metal.
The only way I limped my car home was to keep it in drive and not press the gas. It was able to idle home, but I had to blow through the stop signs because it was very hard to get moving again once I stopped.
Any ideas of what let go? Torque converter? flywheel loose?
