What chips can I use on my car with the stock ECM, I know everyone says to upgrade to the 86/87 version but I don't really want to right now. Anyone have suggestions?? Thanks

IMHO it would cost less in the long run to do it now. If not try casper's electronics ultra chip for $165 it will give you some options and another gadget to play with.

hey

go with the 87 ecm conversion. it is really nice to have. you can read more about how to do it and what u all need just do a search.

I've got the Ultra Chip in my mostly stock 85 GN - it sure helps!

Get them Made

Far as I know you'll have to have a chip burned for your car. When I attended the 2000 GS Nats John at Caspers and Joe with Percision were burning chips. I got one street chip from each. If your going to keep the stock ECM ( which I'm still running ) you'll have to check with the burner of the one you what to go with and see if they'll do one for you unless you go with the one Caspers already has. The 86-87 cars run on more info than the 84-85 and you get off the shelf selection for them.

I noticed better acceleration and shifting. I could only go up to setting 4 - it wouldn't run well and would knock on 5,6 and 7 using octane boost. Even at setting 3 and 4 I would get some knock under heavy acceleration, but it is due to some as yet unknown problem. :( Changing the O2 sensor helped. Of course this is just my impression since I haven't taken it to a track to experiment. I need to get the fuel pump hotwire as the next step.....:)

After changing plugs and finding a bad wire, it's running great. Definitely found better acceleration with the chip at settings 3 and 4 with no more knocking!:D
