Hello Fellow Houston Buick Owners and Enthusiasts;
This is my first communication as Houston Buick Club Director and wanted to share a few thoughts. Please refer to the previous post.
While I did not want the position by default, it was more important to me to continue the club than to wait for another volunteer to execute the election process.
My decision to volunteer for the director position was primarily out of respect for Steve and Robert. I did not want to see all the hard work over the years from Steve and Robert to go to waste. Remember, the club was about to be dissolved and “the right thing to do” was to lead by example through volunteering for the position. No other member had shown interest in any position.
Having stated that, it is vital to note and understand that the HBC does not belong to the leadership, but to the members, period.
Unless members get involved, state their interests in relation to club activities, pay the club dues, there will be no need for a club.
Two questions that are often posed at the leadership meetings are:
• Why would anyone choose to be a member?
• What do members want/expect from the club?
Without the answers to these questions, the club has no real direction. The club relies on, and will continue to rely on “You”, its members to provide that level of feedback.
It is my belief that full leadership disclosure is the best way to serve the club, while the club members direct the activities. Whether a cruise night, a car show, a track meet, etc., it is all up to you!
The club dues are used for food and drink, at the annual picnic, and there are some other ideas floating around. We are working on making it easier for members to pay their dues, through Paypal, cash, check or CC.
I look forward serving and working with the members to make the HBC the most active and prestigious club in Houston!
Remember, this is your club!
