I got on it and the revs went up and it did not go no where. It won't go unless I give it alot of gas and then it barely moves.Reverse is the same way.The shifts were nice and firm and I went to get on it and would not go.How do I know if it is the converter? Are what else should I check?

Convertors usually break or work.
Are you getting any noise?
Fluid smell/look burnt?
Can you get up to enough speed to decern a shift?

The fluid looks in good shape don't smell burnt it just acts like the parking brake is on when you put it in gear it will not move unless you floor it and then it will barely move and reverse is the same way.I was riding around and jumped down on it and it is like it just went to neutral.Does the same in every gear.Checked the linkage every thing was moving good.Could something of come loose somewhere are is my trans gone?I can hear something making a little like a spinning noise but haven't had time today to get under and check it out.Drive shaft is still hooked up.It just acts like it don't want to engage in gear for some reason.

only 2 ways to check

There are only 2 ways to check.

1. cut it apart

2. Taking it to a shop that has an end play checking tool. Endplay on a D-5 or any other 298mm should be .003-.030. There is a plastic conical bushing that has three functions. It controls endplay by being used as a thrust washer, seals both sides of the lock up disc, and sets open and close heights of the lock up disc.

Drop the pan and make sure your pressure regulator and boost valves aren't laying in it.

If you take the converter out, you can try spinning the stator. It should only spin one way. I had a converter that did that and it cooked the trans.....twice:mad:

Your trans is done for....time for a complete rebuild.

Now you have to decide who you want to rebuild the trans. Use the supporting members on this site, if you do, you wont be disappointed.

I recommend PTS Xtreme

Where are you located?
