maybe a parking policeman's "wheel lock" or "boot"?

http://www.mitico.com/rhino_h1_.htm

perhaps an inconvenience for the owner, but I suspect the typical thief doesn't carry a cutting torch or demolition saw!

The boot in combination with a Steadfast column guard should provide decent physical deterrents.

DEI's GPS tracking does all of what darkside mentioned but also offer online tracking and pager/cellphone notification if your car is stolen and goes over the speed limit. Also gives you detailed info online when the car is in transit with time, date and street/city location.

The only thing I believe that saved my car was a hidden waterproof switch for both the fuel pump and main power for the ECM(knock on wood). I know people could be watching me when I park my car, but the chances of them figuring out both the switches are slim. I guess you could put three position switches in and that would make it exponentially tougher for a thief to figure out the position of all the switches. If there was a way to configure some sort of manual line-lock in the floor to the rear brakes it would make towing the car a lot tougher.

And I always block my car in my driveway w/another car at night.

THEY HAVE ONE OF THESE!!!

ive seen it, its just a valve you plumb into the brake system, but to open and close the valve you need a key, so you put this thing on and i dont know exactly how you plumb it.. but you press the brakes and turn the key.

instant PERMANENT parking brake.. it would be great to put it on the front wheels so if they get as far as getting it started and try toleave, all they do is do a massive burnout that attracts police attention

btw, i have a steadfast and the d.i.y. immobilizer off autospeed.com

Its called TELETRAC. It is SATELLITE monitoring system that allows you (the customer) to check the status on your vehicals location at any time of the day 24/7/365!

Found the TELETRAC website and they only offer this service in Los Angeles, California. Tell Arnold to make it available to the rest of the country and it will definitely help out the financial problems of the state. :D

GPS is the way to go.... I have the Xtender Chip with the "auto theft" feature that requires a certain process before the car will start..no key pad just like put in neutral, step on gas 3x....blah blah blah.. But I am also putting in a GPS Tracking device in the unlikely/likely event someone gets it.. I will go see them and show them the business side of a .45 and give them a new set of bracelets.. ;)

If I may ask, what GPS system will you be going with for your car? I've looked at this on the internet and am getting interested in the real-time vehicle locators. I just don't have the enormous amounts of time necessary to look through all the GPS sites out there.

Tom...

if a pro wants your car, there is nothing you can do from stopping them, that is the bottom line.
However, the idea is to make it as hard as possible to deter them.

Cut-off gas and electric switches. "Vehicle Security System" (model no. 2001) by "Grant" removable steering wheel that uses a "Grant" steering wheel , it takes a few seconds to remove the steering wheel (place it in your trunk) and it's a great deterrant. A good after market alarm. Steering column lock.

Also check this comparison out, I also like the "Rhino"...

When they see that it will take them longer than usual, they should shy away.

The cost of all these things put together, should be considerably less than your TR.

Do a search on GPS tracking and find out what available in you area. Go to a local stereo shop and check out what they reccomend.

Or call Directed at 1-800-753-0600 and find out info or contact a local rep in you area. Give me you area or loaction and i'll get the phone number of the local rep in you area.

The alarm in my GN died, and before I got a new one installed, someone tried to steal it. The only thing that saved it was my Thrasher anit theft. They smashed the column, one door lock, the trunk lock, stole my amps, and a tool box, but I was driving it again in no time, and I put another alarm in it real quick. Another thing that I did was to leave a switch for the line lock on whenever I left the car. It was automatic to me. It wouldn't prevent them from driving away, but everytime they applied the brakes, the car would get slower, until it wouldn't move any more. No need for a special one, just hide an extra switch for it.

Brian

Now I drive a car that noone would want to steal until they looked under the hood. Although people in my town are starting to figure it out. Time to buy a Pinto.

Leaving the line lock switched on will probably burn up the solenoid in a rather short amount of time. I am assuming it is wired to only be on when the ignition is turned on which will help. I wouldn't be too bad if you wired a timer into it to leave it on for 30 seconds after you pressed the brakes though.

An excelent way to set up a "passkey" system is to use the blue wire from the stereo to power a relay and disable whatever you want. With removable faceplate stereos, the blue wire doesn't get power without the faceplate installed so when you take it off, you can't start/run the car depending on what you disabled.

I just thought of this idea. I kinda like the steering wheel removal but who wants to carry it with you and you can't leave it in the car...or can you???? How about welding a very stout steel box in the pan of the trunk with a killer shielded lock then you could throw it in there in just a minute and be on your way. That way with no steering wheel, no ones going to break in the car and trash the column thinking they can steal the car only to find out it wont start because of your other kill switches??

Just an idea.

DON't drive them!

Well OK maybe Drive them but never stop or get out of them.

I actually have seen a portable boot that you can attach to the wheel. that would stop drive offs & possibly towing if you put one on each end of the car. Pluse these units are like $500- each & weigh A lot

I think the steadfast colum lock is good . Most car theives could steal an 80s GM with tilt wheel in seconds , its super easy . So thats a good move to slowem down at worst . Hidden switches for the fuel and computer is easy to do and would make it harder too . The car cranks too so that makes it hard to figure out why its not starting .
He's on to something here.

I've been a cop almost 14 years and have yet to see or hear a report of a car being stolen that has a well wired, well hidden kill switch for either the ignition AND/OR fuel pump. Now when I mean hidden I'm talking about HIDDEN and not in the ash tray. You can hide a kill switch in plain sight no one would suspect it such as the rear defog switch if you don't use your rear defog anymore or something similar. Be creative. You can pair up switches and have them in a combination of fuel pump, ECM and ignition which all must in the correct order to fire with the switches in different locations. Short of a flat bed a thief isn't going to hang around trying to troubleshoot why the engine isn't firing up......trust me.

Another fantastic tool is On-Star or Lo-Jack. The down side is the fact it's a recovery tool and not a preventive measure.

Remember this though, if a thief wants your car and you leave it unattended it'll be gone no matter what you do.

HTH,

Have you done this.. I thought about that and thought.. WOW.. that's slick. Protect your stereo from being stolen and your car. Only problem I thought of and I'm thinking of fix now. Say you have it hooked up to kill 'fuel'. When you're cranking the car, the radio turns off again while cranking and turns back on after it's running. So wouldn't this kill the 'fuel' while cranking as well? Not critizing.. I like the idea. Thanks for sharing it!

I remember a friend was working on a car at a body shop that had it set up so that you could only start the car if you turned the lights on. Guess that wouldn't work with Twilight Sentinel.

My personal thoughts are to keep a Rott and Pit bull chained at each wheel. I think that may help Mark

seriously though, sleep in your car with a 9mm in your lap

exactly why that wouldnt work. you would have to use the pair of relays in the autospeed immobilizer for that to work correctly, turn key on, radio powers on, trips the relays which pulls the NO relay closed, and allows starting. when you turn the car off you could just press a button to reset the system. just dont forget to press the button.

Maybe I should talk with my oldest stepson, he's told me it wouldn't be too tuff to wire a car to temporarily electrocute someone, sorta like a tazer...

Don't matter if the thief plans on driving it or towing it, he can't do neither while unconscious! :D
