I am going to be converting to the vacuum brake setup, and I just wanted to know how difficult of a job this would actually be to complete.

I'm not a master mechanic at all, but I have done work on my 87 GN and been successful so far, and I have always been a do-it-yourself type of person. I actually like the challenge of learning how to do new things when it comes to working on cars.

With good detailed directions, I am thinking that I could pull it off.

What would you guys rate this task on a 1 to 10 rating scale (1 being very easy & 10 being very difficult)?

Thank You

I would rate it a 2.

It is very easy to do, the hardest part for me was getting up under the dash to remove the brake pedal assy, i'm not as young, thin and flexible as i used to be.

Here is a link to some very good info. Powermaster To Vacuum Brake Conversion

A 2  , I have done pretty much everything on this car aside from building the actual motor and transmission and this mod is so frustrating. I do have a ton of wiring under my dash but to say it is a 2 ( like changing your oil ) is a total underestimate of how annoying this is for the first time.

Getting the bolt in and out for the pedal is really annoying. The speed nut on my lower left hand bolt ( on the firewall ) for the powermaster was probably a good half hour right there, it just would not come off.

This mod was probably one of the most frustrating things I have done to the car, and look at my list below.

pretty easy.. the pedal swap is the only PITA .. but well worth it in the end

Hi

i need 4 hours to convert it's easy
be sure you prime the new or rebuilted master cylinder very well before
connect the break line.
it is a nice time to change the entire break oil too.

Just the bending and tight spaces were the pain

I would agree with most, but whitehot1 says it.

valuable tip!!!!

take the time to remove the drivers seat, ( 2 minutes, 4 bolts)
place fender cover over protruding bolts,., now lay down on your back, and remove the pedal assy, ... simple !
no comments on us chubby guys fitting under the dash ok?? LOL

I agree 100% about removing the seat to get under the dash. Wish I would have done that....
