I recently got a fuel pump kit, and I want to start it tonight, but I still have about 8 or so gal in it....how do I get the fuel out?!? I have heard you can put a hose on the fuel rail, and jump a wire to the pump, and let IT pump itself out....Help!

Thanks

That would be correct. Get a hose, and jump the black connector by the alternator. That will make the pump work.

SLOWLY take the schrader valve out of the fuel rail- it will leak gas, so have rags ready-, put a 3/8" hose on the rail. Put the end of the hose in a bucket or something. Behind the alternator, you will see a wire with a spade on it, just hanging there. Take 12 volts to it- back of the alternator at the stud works- and the fuel pump should run and drain the tank. I use clear hose so I can see the bubbles when it gets low.

Interesting note: When I detailed cars at a chevy dealer, the mechanics always dropped fuel tanks when they were patially filled. I asked why you wouldn't just drain them so they'd be lighter? They said that fuel VAPOR is far more explosive than liquid, and it was safer to do it full. Just heavy, though. Makes sense, so I do mine half full, no boom yet...

To keep from having to deal with pressurized gas at all, disconnect the fuel pump power lead behind the rear bumper and run the car till it stalls from lack of fuel. Then reconnect the power lead, remove the schrader valve in the fuel rail, and I suggest using a fuel pressure gage line (remove the gage) to direct the fuel into a suitable container. Also, I connected the spade terminal behind the alternator to the hood light terminal. Made up a little split wire with a switch. You do not want any sparks around while moving the gasoline...
