I'd say that your best bet is to take it to a "good" glass shop that does auto glass. Have them fit another mirror with the frame on the car. There are little parts that can break if you try and take it all apart.
My local autoglass shop placed a very thin mirrored lense on top of my scratched lense.Looks great,and you can't even tell.Cost $38,including taxes.I thought that was a better option than breaking the original lense,and replacing it.Hope this helps.Dave

I bought another mirror from a junk yard to try to replace my broken passenger mirror with. I recall trying to do the swap and it was a royal PITA, so I left it to do it later. Still need to do it but don't know if I want another piece of glass over the broken stuff.
