I have two in my GN and am thinking about removing the one from the driver side and installing it in my other TR, on the passenger side. My TR is primarily stock. Is it worth the trouble? I'll be mounting a new set of MT ET streets and would like a decent 60', like 1.6 sec. or better. How hard is it to remove and install? What pressure is recommended? Thanks!

Hi,
Both cars will benefit if you take the bag out of the left side of car A, and place it in the right spring of car B. You will have to disconnect the shocks, lift the car, and remove the spring to get the bag out.Needless to say, it is a little bit of work, but worth it. The passenger side is where the torque is placed when acclerating.I wouldn't run more than 5 to 10 psi in these things.

I installed my airbags with the springs still in the car, I folded the airbag in half by hand and put one half of the airbag inside the spring (you have to slide the airbag in from the bottom of the spring). Then I slid that part up to the top of the spring and it went in. It's hard to explain but it took me about 20 minutes to put my airbags in, the hoses were already in place.

Anybody have 60' times before and after they installed their bag? I asked on another thread if it was worth disconnecting the front sway bar. Typical answer was no unless I was making big horsepower (which I'm not).

Rick,

When you purchase airbags new they tell you to never run less than 5 psi in them. They could crease if they have less than 5 psi. If you are running two a good combination is 7 pounds in the driver side and 14 in the passenger side. If you are going to run with one in the passenger side only you will have to experiment between 9 - 12 and see what your car likes.
My car went from consistent 1.7 60' times to 1.5 60' times with only the passenger side airbag. I swear by them now.
They are very easy to install. Simply jack the car up letting the axle sag. Let all of the air out and fold the bag so it will slip between the springs. The reverse is true for the install. The bag is a durable material so you will have to muscle it a little when folding it over. 20 minute job max.

Good luck!

BTW: The car wash must be keeping you busy this summer.

Thanks for the replies everybody! Will be doing the airbag swap tonight. I should go to the car wash more often to wash off that VHT! I came home from work 10 minutes ago and my new ET Streets were waiting on my front porch for me. One day shipping!

I wrestled the air bag out and came in to take a break. I had to suck the air out with my mouth while wrestling with it. It kept wanting to fill back up. Also sprayed it with WD-40. Hopefully I will be able to install it in my other car. One more question-is it ok to drive around with air in the bag or should I just air it up at the track and deflate it when I go home?

That is correct. Fill it up at the track and let it down to 5 PSI when you head home. I forgot to mention that when you purchase a new airbag it comes with a rubber cap on the fill nozzle so it will not keep filling up with air. You simple squeeze the air out and put the cap on the nozzle to help the install go smooth. Sorry about that.

That's cool. I got it out ok. But I broke the schrader valve, headed to O'reilly's for a new one.

Airbag went in easy. Put air in it and heard sssssssssssssssssssss  Guess I won't be racing with an airbag this Friday.

Update! I jacked up the car again and repositioned the air bag. Seems the leak was coming from where the hose goes into the bag. I put air in it and no more leak. I was going to put on an adjustable fuel pressure regulator but I noticed that my 237 regulator shows 43 psi with line off. So I just left it alone. Then I was going to put in a Denso O2 sensor but couldn't get the old one out. Never had a problem removing it before, but my wrench just wouldn't grab it. Even bought one of those sockets made for the O2 sensor. So I left that alone too.
