I want to put a billet servo in my 85 tranny to beef up the shifts but everywhere I call acts as if it's a big deal to do this. Everywhere I've seen the servos it says it's a 15 minute job. I even had a guy say the whole tranny may need to come out due to the 2nd gear band coming loose when taking out the original servo. What's involved and how long does it really take to put a billet servo in a tranny while in the car? Also, do I need the anchor pin too?

remove the servo retaining ring and the servo cover .it may be necessary to pull out the cover with a channel lockremove the oring if it didnt come out with the cover..now remove the 2nd gear piston,3rd accumulaor piston, cushion spring, and servo pin,and secondary cushion spring.reinstall the new parts in the reverse order.some servo will not the require the use of the secondary spring.what servo?you should just locate an old 200 3 speed servo, they work great. .and dont worry about missing the band,it never happens with an in service transmission.its very easy, dont believe the hype.

I was gonna get a servo from either you or Bruce. Everywhere I call either wants to see the car first or try to run up a high bill before even working on it. I asked about a guy installing a new 2nd gear band and he said it would run $8-900. That's why i figured just a servo would work for now. I already have the wider band but the weak servo is starting to let it slip.

as previously stated i dont use a billet servo.only the 3speed 200 piece.it has a larger area than all billet servos i compared it too which equates to more band apply force and firmer shifts .based on the severity of the slip, you may have a trans problem./if not my servo and recalibrator will kick it in the ass.

Go with the servo from Chris

The old 200 servo is awsome, gets rid of the 3-2 downshift clunk.

Make sure after you put it in that you can turn the driveshaft backwards to make sure the band isn't dragging.

When you say "old 200" do you mean the servo out of a regular Regal tranny? I've heard of getting one out of an old Cadillac tranny. I just want to know exactly what to look for. Thanks again for the help so far.

If you can find one of these with this no., but Chris has em & they come with sealing rings & are ready to install.

Great. Just a few more questions. Will it firm up all the shifts or just the 1-2? How much is the one from Chris shipped to NC? Thanks again.
