My son just bought himself an '87 T-Type ''WE4'' with t-tops. Until now, I never saw a WE4 with t-tops...Is it me, or is it really an unusual car ?

Claude.

ive seen a few on here for sale..but an actual production # of how many Ttop We4 car's?..probably not very many..but you might want to contact kirban if anyone know's im sure it would be him..

They made them....nobody knows how many. probably rarer still or as rare is ones with astro roof option. However either option seemed to go against the idea behind the WE4 as that car was promoted as being lighter than a GN therefore quicker...you start adding t tops or astroof and you defeat the purpose of the reason for the car.

The WE4 is one of the highly sought after T models in 1987.....been neat had they made a unique emblem for the fender like Corvette did with the ZO6....

The guy up the street from me has one with T-Tops. Bought it new from O neil Buick in Warminster Pa. Still has it! Cool car. Almost looks as nice a a Rosewood car:)

I own one with T tops. Over the last few years I have seen several for sale with ttops so I would imagine a lot came with that option. Never hear of many with the astroroof so ide imagine that's the rarest. Combined with 25yrs of wrecks, thefts, rust/rot, and parted out, ide guess the WE4 numbers in existance are kinda low.

I also have one with T-tops. I am trying to get the Vin numbers from all the WE4s I come across, hoping to figure this mystery out if I can. Please send me any vin numbers of WE4s and what options it has. (Ttops, Astroroof, right mirror option, etc.) Together we can get an idea of how many are out there.

Sorry Rich, but for your first post on this board, I don't think that would get many to send you vin number with options. But its a ttop...right mirror, etc. I dont think a vin will help you distinguish anything about WE4s other than what is already known.

The vin number is the only way I can get an accurate count on them. I save to my file the vin and options. It's sounds impossible but I would hope I can eventually document all known. I'll keep you posted.

Too many imo. They all should have been hard top. Ive seen several so there not rare

"either option seemed to go against the idea behind the WE4"
Yeah maybe. I do prefer a solid roof car, but when you buy a 25 years old car, you don't always get to "choose" it's options. You either buy it as it is, or you just don't. o_O

and

Yes it would've been neat, but let's not forget that "WE4" is NOT the name of the car, but rather the option code offered on a car named the "Regal T-Type". It's a little like talking about a "WE2". Few people know or care about what's a WE2, but everyone knows what's a "Grand National"! ;)

Thanks,

Claude. :)

I thought the cowl tag (c11) or rpo sticker was the only way?

I too have a T-Top WE4. I love my T-Tops. they're murder on a headliner, and even with all the body bracing it still squeaks and creaks some, but i don't mind. And no it doesn't have the structural integrity of a hardtop, but as a 12 second car, i hardly notice lol. Hopefully, before too long she'll be fast enough to warrant more structural support, but i figure i'll cross that bridge when i come to it.

As far as I know the WE4 code wil only appear onthe trunk ID label....will also confirm if the T-Tops are factoru T-Tops and not aftermarket T-Tops....be surprised how many aftermarket T-Tops were installed back in the day.

Along that same train of thought we get the original style window stickers done for almost all year Buicks working with Triple A Enterprises. You wil need the GM archives info which will give you the name of the original selling dealership unless you already have that. Along with the copy of your trunk ID label.

No one knows how many WE4 had T-Tops...the car was hyped by Buick as being lighter than the Gn therefore quicker....T-Tops added weight to the package. Kind of defeated the general idea of the marketing plan behind the WE4.

One reason to make sure its factory T-Tops. Think code for T Tops is CC1.....on your trunk ID label.

i think ..i said i think there was only like 1500 we4s made and were just as rare as the gnx then after 20 odd years of not taking care of the ttops there probaly very rare now
