When I push up on the drive shaft right by the trans mount, I have about a 16th inch play. Is this supposed to have this much play? I am in the process of replacing that seal as well, I just wanted to know if it's supposed to be this sloppy. What's the standard?

About .006" clearance to the bushing is normal

Thanks! And how is it you know all this shit. I sware you're either a professor at MIT, or you follow Einstein's "Never memorize something you can easily look up." but have 8000 pin-ups of charts and graphs all over your computer room for super quick access lol. You never cease to amaze me lol. You must be making a killing at your shop lol. I can't wait to ship this car to you have you go at it lol.

One more question on this; this excess play I have - is this due to a worn shaft seal, or is this coming from something else.

Tail shaft busing in your transmission is most likely worn and is causing this extra play.
I've had mine replaced without removing the transmission by a competent shop....it can be done with a special tool
Do a search as there has been some discussions about this previously.

Could this be possible with a Lonnie Diers transmission with less than a thousand miles on it? And would this amount of play possibly activate my knock sensor by chance?

If the yoke or splines twisted It would have rapid bushing wear I believe. They look good on the yoke and trans?

We shall see soon lol. The trans is new from Lonnie, and this car has zero traction. Never seen more than a 2.2 short time lol.

Ok just felt an extreme automatics th400 at a shop brand new, and it has the exact same play as mine does :) so this is good :)
