HOW MUCH SLACK IS TOO MUCH...timing chain

Put a new double roller chain on for rebuild, just got thru breakin it in and had oil leak. Removed timing cover and noticed chain seemed loose on one side, tight on the other. I know this is due to clearance in the teeth with rotation.
My question is how much slack is acceptable on the one side? Is there a rule of thumb as to how much I should only be allowed to push it in?
BTW, no spring tensioner is being used but wondering if I should'nt put one on. What do you think?

no more than an inch movement in the slack side.

No tensioner, double rollers usually eat them.

Most double rollers tend to stretch like mad...who is it? Dynagear or such that work a bit better?

Probably would have been happier in time with the stock replacement that won't start slapping the timing gear cover as the chain stretches...

Ok then I am ok. It is only about 1/8 -1/4 max. Yes it is their HP line from Dynagear. Thanks Steve.
