OK in the near future im going to have to rebuild my engine.Found metal particles in my oil filter.which may have cause my new t49 to go bad and
causing me to replace my cam sensor 2 times this years. also did notice some noise by the front of the engine.my goal is to due a very mild rebuild just would like to upgrade the crank, double timing chain, new oil pump stock, new
cam, and new valve springs and roller rockers also would like to have a couple thing ported and polished like the plenum, stock 90 elbow to downpipe and intake manifold. Im going to try and save my pistons if posible.all exhuast parts like the down pipe, headers and crossover pipe will be cleaned up with the high temp engine paint to reduce some heat.looking for street/stock MANNERS NOT a race engine just a step better than stock.LOOKING FOR A PRICE FOR EVERTHING IS $4300 A GOOD PRICE
by the way my gn has 36,978 miles on it twice at the track in 5 years

All you are going to get here is opinions.

If you want a quote, you need to contact an engine builder direct so you can discuss your needs and wants. He can then do a close estimate for parts and labor specific for you.

Say I wanted a stock longblock with a mild cam, no porting, what's a round about price?

like Nick said .. best to call "your" guy.. way to many variations.. from a steel crank, K1 rods with a new set of Diamond pistons .. girdle.. roller cam and kit .. it grows QUICK

Pretty Much What Needs To Be Replace Will Be Replace, but Still Trying To Keep It Very Close To Stock As Possible.the Crank, timing Chain.cam And Valve Springs Will Be Replace No Matter What

THE $4300 dollars was already quoted to me, i was just seeing if this was a good price or not, this price includes removal of engine. And the couple of parts i had mention before

First of all, I would STRONGLY recommend head porting on any rebuild. This is by far the least expensive $$$ you will ever spend for the HP gain.:)

A "basic" rebuild is at least $4000 using customers block, heads, crank, pistons and rods.

Heads need reconditioning including guides, surfacing, crack check, seals, springs and a good valve job. An extra $300, or so, will get the basic port work done.

It is not possible to say if this is a "good" price or not since you did not include a detailed estimate.

There any many associated items that will vary the price. For example, a set of bearings can cost ~$50 or $190 for very good quality parts. The piston rings can have the same wide cost variation. Some machine operations are not considered "necessary" by many shops.

You must understand the turbo Buick engine is a performance piece even in stock form. When it is not treated as such, problems and short life can, and do, result.

im sorry i will supply the parts and he will due the rest.my mechanic gave me
a list but for some reason i cant find it on what he is going to due as far machine work goes.I ran into a couple of gn owner that he has rebuild motors for.
it appears his work is pretty good. im sure you guys have heard about him he
is the one with a 2003 caddy cts that ran low to mid 11's turbotommy.
As soon as i find all the paper work im i will post it to see what you guys think

Rebuild cost

Yep was looking at old paper work from 1992 on a rebuild that the original owner had done on the car had 36,514 miles on it it is still running strong with 75,301 mile today. The gentleman(Gibson Performance) that built the engine said in a write up. The engine is bone stock 3.8V6 that we basically built to real tight specs similar to a super stock or stock eliminator drag engine, where everything is super precise but it's all stock components, stock hydraulic camshaft, one we had ground to our specs but it is stock,we raised the compression a little, we changed valve sizes and went with after market SS pieces. Equalized the combustion chambers did some bowl work and exhaust port work, but not a major port job . Looking at the cost back then seems maybe overpriced but I guess you get what you pay for. She still runs strong for having almost 40 k since the rebuild. When she finally gives up the ghost I will probably take her to AZGN . Of coarse one of Nick's Aluminum blocks would be a nice foundation if I could get the wife on board that would be sweet I doubt if she'd let me spend 10K though. Here is just a list of some of the pricing back in the day 16 years ago. This may have been expensive for back then but the engine still boogies.
1.Assemble Engine .$500
2.Disassemble & vat.$75
3. Align hone & square.$153.60
4. Bore & hone with deckplates 115.20
5.Shot peen & recond rods polish beams 103.20
6.balance & mount rods to pistons 153..60
7. Magnaflux & polish crank 32.50
8.Valve job,guides,cc.mill , gasketmatch, polish chambers, flow test 625.00
9. Remove & replace engine 450.00
Total labor over 1700
Parts 2275.57

SpeedPro forged .30 pistons 147.78
Precision wrist pins 126.00
6 Manley valves 11502 150.84
6 Manley valves 11503 167.64
Cam & lifter 297.60

It starts adding up add new injectors, new adj Conley fuel reg, bearing, rings, rocker arms, gaskets, etc etc.

I just did this

only I bought a built short block off this board. I had the heads fixed and have $3000 in the whole thing. He has another one that's even nicer for sale. Streetwaves out of Austin, Texas.

I've built a 396 big block Chevy and I had $3500 in it for parts and labor but it also had a lot of aftermarket parts in it. And big block Chevys are usually expensive to build. More than a small block Chevy 350.

I never thought it would be so expensive to build a Buick V6. Guess it backs up my belief that Buick anything is expensive and/or hard to find parts for.

remember guy he is no stronger to buick turbos,he has been building engine's
for 20 plus years also racing them.the only reason many havent heard about him is because we have always had ANS PERFORMANCE TO GO TO FOR SERVICE/ENGINE WORK.I DONT NOW IF GOOD PRICE OR NOT BUT AT THIS POINT IM NOT A MECHANIC SO I HAVE TO PAY FOR SOME ONE TO DUE IT.

I Did Call DLS Engine Development And They Told Me They Wont Touch It, If Its Not Going To Be A Race Engine

I'm not aiming to ever get out of the 11's, and there is no way in hell I am ever going to pay over $2,500-$3,000 for a standard rebuild, no way. I may port the extra set of heads I have myself, not sure yet.
