I am trying to get the drivers side head off, got the head bolts off no problem. I didnt realize the stupid AC compressor was going to be such a PIA. How does this thing come off? I cant get a socket or an open end wrench on the nut on the bottom front of the compressor. Does the clutch have to come off? I cant get to the bolts that hold the bracket to the head without removing the dumb compressor.
Whats the easy way?
Thanks

Drivers side wheel well area maybe?

I know I changed my A/C compressor a few years ago without toooooo much trouble.

Lots of things get more accessible without the wheel in the way. :)

The steering box is in the way on the bottom, and the pump on the other side.
Does the clutch have to come off? I cant see any other way to get the damn nut off the front on the bottom

The nut is on the end of a bolt that goes in from the rear of the compressor.

What I use is a 15mm short socket and a flex-head ratchet to turn the bolt. The nut you can usually hold by hand, if not, remove the P/S pump and put a 15mm open end wrench on it. Slide the bolt back as you unscrew it, and the nut falls off.

You can get an open end wrench on that front lower nut very easilly, then remove the bolt it's attached to from the rear of the compressor, with a 15mm box end or ratchet.

Once you figure out which bolts hold what, and where, you'll be amazed at how easilly the compressor comes out.

I didnt think about putting a ratchet on the back. I knew I could get a wrench on the front but there is no room to turn. Thanks for the info
