On my way home from work ,I have to climb a long upgrade,I want to inst a manual switch that will take off the lock-up part of the torque converter, thus getting me closer to my power-band while climbing this 6% grade. Any body done this before.Which wires do I install the switch in ,would it go into the 4 wire plug that is in the side of of the trans?? Help needed here,,,Jack

the typical lockup switch is wired via the aldl by connecting the top two upper pins together (completing a ground) what you are wanting to do is take power away from the lock up solonoid on command...interesting idea...

why dont you just tap the brake gently with your left foot as you begin your climb...that will unlock the conv and will stay unlocked until you level out (letting off the throttle)

as far as which wire to tap into...i believe it is the top switch on the brake pedal...i suppose you could put a simple switch on one of those wires, where it would take power away from the brake pedal switch thus keeping the conv unlocked

tcc manual switch----

tylerdurden----thanks for quick reply,,I was thinking that I could install the switch at the purple wire at the brake sw(thats the one that runs down to the trans) thus removing the lock-up as I climb the hill. The bit about tapping the brake peddle would work if I kept my foot in the throttle all the way up,but it doesnt go that way,I keep my foot at a steady throttle position all the way up,if I tap the brake,it takes it off only for a short while, then it turns back on,this repeats itself many times while climbing the hill(about 10-12 mi) .To stop this I need to manually control the lock-up,or at least,I think It`ll help a lot----thanks, Jack

the ALDL switch will only allow lockup.....you cannot unlock the converter from there if it is already locked

you'll need to kill the voltage (or ground) to the solenoid to unlock

the power to the TCC 12v is there all the time the switch is on .The lock-up is controlled by the ECM tru the ground or (- ) the signal from the brake switch I think goes to the ECM to tell it to unlock.

switch to un lock the converter

Hey Guys---my Idea worked,,I installed an off/on switch to the purple wire that come off the brake switch assy. Works great, raises the RPM by about 400-500,just enough to get me off the" lugging" at 4th gear w/lockup up that hill---Thanks all,,Jack
