How do you pull codes off of a 96 chevy Blazer (S10)? Can you use the paper clip trick?

You need a OBD2 code reader.
OBD1 vehicles can use the paper clip.
My 96 Astro is setup the same way.
Is it throwing a SES light? You might be able to get it scanned at a local parts store (some will, some wont).
The scanners are upwards of $130.
Anything going wrong with it?

It's my buddy's trk, he said now that the weather is getting colder the trk is starting to run like crap and the SES light comes on and off ( it's not staying on). He's not real good on up keep so I'm going to check out the normal stuff tomorrow and see if it's just something stupid. Do the scanners work on multiple vehicles?
