it is stuck in the manifold pretty good. I sprayed it with penetrating oil but I'm afraid of breaking the manifold. Any tips? Car is cold and has been sitting for a day. Thanks.

I would hit the manifold around the sensor with some heat. When hot enough to melt candle wax rub a candle around that area. Let the wax seep into the threads. If this is the CTS and you want to save it, use a box wrench. A deep well socket tends to break the top plastic piece off.

What's a CTS? A caddi? I was amazed...came home from work and put a wrench on it and it came right off! I'll make a note to use your tip next time. I left the penetrant on for 4 hours. Thanks.

A CTS Caddy, never thought of that. A CTS is the Coolant Temperature Sensor. This is the one used by the ECM. If I have it correct, there are two others on the '86/'87 Buick's and '89 TTAs. They are for the dash light/gauge and another for the high speed fan.

Good that the sensor unleashed itself, makes life so much easier.

Oh yeah coolant temp sensor. Why didn't I think of that? Full Throttle chip was commanding fans to come on at 215 degrees and shut off at 200. I sent it back to see if anything is wrong with it. TT chip was a little better-fans came on at 200 but then shut off after a minute. So with new CTS, fans came on at 190 and then shut off, which is closer to how it used to be. If I turn on the A/C, fans come on immediately and shut off at 180.
