How to replace shifter cable

How do I go about replacing the shifter cable ?

pretty straight forward remove console remove cable from shifter and trans.
Install new cable and adjust thru gears.

How do you adjust it? Mine was broken, but it seems too short, the bracket attached to the transmission isnt close enough for the cable to hook on properly.

You have the wrong cable if it is too short.
