I am dismantling my 2004r tranny to get rid of it. Is there a walk through on how to take out the servo and the pump? I have the valve body, govenor and linkage parts out and and lower half accessable by the pan out. I removed the bolts arounf the pump but can't get it loose either. any help would be appreicated.

Thanks

Mike

Have you removed the retaining ring around the intermediate band servo cover? The pump should be able to be removed once all the bolts have been taken out, however it requires a little coaxing sometimes due to a stubborn pump to case gasket. GM had a little tool to extract the pump via the stator shaft to address this problem.

"Have you removed the retaining ring around the intermediate band servo cover?" Not sure where it is or what it is. If you could explain I would appreicate it.

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

In order to remove the intermediate band servo piston assembly, you must first remove the 2+ inch diameter disc shaped servo cover which is located on the outside of the case just above the oil pan on the right side of the trans. There is a retaining ring that holds it in place. If you look closely you will see it around the outside perimeter if the servo cover. It can be pried out with a small flat blade screwdriver. Then you can remove the servo cover (using a pliers to grab on if you can't work it loose with your fingers) which will give you access to take out the servo piston assembly.
