Hey guys (and Guy ;) ),

How's life in Paradise these days? Anyone setting any new personal records?

I finally go the car back together and the tranny taken care of. Just in time too since this past weekend was the first race of the year for us. The last couple times have been rainouts

It took about 6 runs to get the car somewhat dialed in and I ran an 11.55 @ 117 mph with a somewhat disappointing 1.61 60'.

The new convertor seems looser and what I wanted and I think both my ET and mph suffered because of it. Once I get that tighted up we'll see how things go :D

Congrats on the new best ET and MPH! So I guess Desert Storm 3 was a success?! :D How many #'s of boost were you running at, and what kind of day was it at Ashcroft? Now as far as your "disappointing" 1.61 60' goes, you wont get any sympathy from me. ;) :D

Actually the racer turnout was quite dismal despite valiant efforts from Carla and the rest of the events crew. Seemed to be alot of people who either couldn't afford it or just couldn't have their car ready in time. It's always a good time though. Everyone that attended had a blast.

As for my run, I ran 25# of boost but I suspect I could match the same ET or better is the convertor was tighter. The car pulled really well though. I just expected 60's down around mid-low 1.5's but the track was not hooking as well as usual and the new convertor seemed to be slipping too much on the launch.

I had 1 run on Saturday that was an 11.65 @ 108mph. I had to let off because I had a lean pop from fuel starvation. I added another 5 gallons of C16 on Sunday morning and blasted off the 11.55. I suspect the run the day before might have been quite and bit better had I not run out of fuel. I suspect I gave up 2+ tenths and probably 10mph on that run. Damn!

Pics will be in the next newsletter. Jim and I delayed it so we could get the Ashcroft event in there.

How's your car doing? Anything new to report?

(Sigh) Nope. I still have some parts to install (incluuding your old '49 :D) My drivers side header is cracked, and I still haven't heard from the board member that's supposed to be selling me a trans. :(

Hot-Air will be running soon though! :)

Why not look into one of Bruce's Econo street units? The Killer Street is probably overkill (no pun intended) for a low 12 high 11 setup anyways. Plenty of guys out our way have had their tranny's last from local builders with some hard parts but not all the stuff Bruce has. You could also look at buying some of Bruce's parts and having a local builder do your tranny. Are there any shops there that have done more than one GN tranny?

I had mine built by a local shop that has done a bunch for guys in the club. I bought Bruce's shift kit, line pressure kit and 1-2 band. This thing shifts real nice and firm even with the 9" high stall convertor in there.

Good luck, I hope you have it running and hit the 12's before I get out there again, which will hopefully be in December.

Hi Clayton & Carla,
11.55@117 mph WOW! That's some driving Carla:D Clayton sure knows how to tune YOUR car.;) Hope he can tune my car that good when you guys come over. So far the best I ran was a 13.15@107 STILL  looking for that 12sec run. Do you think a Extender Chip will be better than the JL110 race chip I was running?(And still running (+4*/-8*wot)on the street:D ) Looking forward to seeing you guys Friday at Anna Millers 4pm;)
Aloha,
Guy

Hi Guy,

Did you notice a difference when you put the THDP on? Are you opening the dump pipe at the track?

Did you get some slicks? 12's are difficult without traction.

What about fuel, are you using leaded race gas or alky still?

The last 2 times I have changed my combo drastically it took 6 or 7 runs to get it dialed in. If I can make it out there in December it should only take 4 or 5 to have your car running low 12's :D

A little:( Alot when I open the dump:D 5-6 mph diffrence.

I was running Drag Nittos. No low end can't spin them:( But I do have slicks when I need them.

Was using Unioncal 110 Leaded

What about brake upgrades? S10 wheel cylinders, Big/soft shoes and adjustable prop valve?

Those would allow you to stall your D5 higher and build/launch with more boost. That would make a huge difference and you wouldn't have any problem with "low end" power.

Yep, I Got the S10 wheel cylinders, & Big/soft shoes.:) No prop valve. I have no problem holding the boost on the line. I just can't make more than 6# on the line. Sat on the line for 4+ secs (with Jackson :D ) Trying to build boost but it only goes up to 6# :( But it (the power/boost?) does seem to come in quicker With the dump open & adding 4*timing into the base. And taking 4-6* out at WOT.

Usually you will have better spool by taking timing out of the base and adding it back in for WOT. Maybe you should look at an Extender chip? It has launch assist which should allow you to build more boost on the line and should spool the turbo quicker after you launch. There is no reason why you shouldn't be baking the hell out of those Nitto's, especially with a 6psi launch.

An adj prop valve would help alot also. I think they are only $40 from Summit and probably cost another $75 - $100 to have it installed.
