Hydroboost Conversion

My P/M was full. We will have the 1.125" alum masters in a week or two. They are really nice, and polishable. G.M. used a 2 stage step bore master on their trucks (and S10's) since 88. They angle cut the o ring bore in the calipers to pull the pistons off the pads for gas mileage. Then they needed more volume to push them back to the pad. The 1.125" master will be fine. The H/B has a quick take-up linkage inside to give a fuller feel to the pedal height. Just make sure the rears are adjusted, and all the bleeders are pointing up. We can also powder coat the H/B, and/or polish the master. Looks really clean. I don't have PayPal, but any credit card will do.

I must say i put these brakes in my syclone and it was one of the best mods ever,you can hold 20 psi at the line with a finger on the pedal if you wanted to,but i made my system and that was on a syclone

I think you misunderstood. Our hydroboost can come with several different options. We offer an 1.125" "aluminum" master at an extra cost. We offer a polished aluminum p/s reservoir to replace the plastic reservoir, and it has the extra h/b return port in it. That reservoir uses a SS braided 5/8" new hose assy from res. to pump. Powdercoating and polished master are extra. Those are all "options" and many of the muscle car and street rod guys like them customized. We just offer it. The basic Hydroboost, master, mounting is still $545.00. The list price for that assembly is $880.00. Hoses are extra. There is a lower cost hose set with braided pressure hoses and rubber type returns, or, all stainless, including the returns. The basic new H/B is an epoxy type black, but is not glossy. It would look just like the photo of Mr. Dreamcar's installation.

Having a "butt load" of go-fast stuff doesn't do a thing with no brakes. Those who have more speed than brakes, rarely take a car to it's full potential. The guys at the car shows with tunnel rams, blowers and stuff, rarely wind the motor all the way up thru second gear for a real fast ride. They know they can't stop. The fear factor of wrecking their pride and joy enters in. Few have ever even opened up the back barrels of all those carbs. I know it's cool to have the "illusion" of speed, but, when the green flag drops, etc. That said, We use all new Hydroboosts and masters, with the right brackets, so that your brakes will work right the first time, and possibly save your equipment and your life. I know this system will save you many other troubles with trying to constantly find out why the brakes are on the fritz, again. I think it is money wisely invested. That has already been posted here by others. I drag raced for years, and I love go fast stuff, too. The engines I have built have been featured in magazines. I also remember in the 60's some very close calls to serious disasters. I have had customers come in my shop, close to tears, and said to me "You saved my life, there was no way I would have made it, if you hadn't fixed my brakes" I know you happily spend Thousands Of Dollars to go faster. Those parts are listed in the posts. Would you take your family for a high speed ride, Knowing the brakes are marginal? You already know they are. Is putting the "cheapest" brake system you can find on YOUR car, going to make you feel better? I just ask the question. That said, again, the hose set with SS pressure and rubber returns are $265.00. The full stainless set, is $335.00. Is there some huge profit in there? No. I really break even on all that stainless and fittings. You can certainly make up hoses for the car, where your local hose guy is. We have the only hose set with the swivel banjo ends, instead of the elbows sticking up. They are pictured on Dreamcar's photos. The NEW Hydroboost beats the rebuilt Powermasters from every angle, and they bolt right on, without changing the pedal. Vacuum boosters (with no vacuum) are very marginal stopping from 100mph, and miserable in traffic. The Hydroboost lays the car down, at any speed. Which costs more?

Is there any issue getting the brake lines to reach the replacement master cylinder. I was reading that in some cases when converting to a different brake setup you can run into issues like that, where the master cylinder ends up in a slightly different position and you have trouble getting the brake lines to fit.

This is what I have now. It doesnt look like what Is in another post in this thread. Also, do you carry just a set of the stainless steel hoses? I mean, all of them so I can hook it up to an 87 engine? I will get a new brake unit from you a little bit down the road, since the car will be leaving to get painted soon.



Also, my pass. rear brake seems like it locks up. Is that the brake cylinder in back locking up, or the unit up front doing this?

The stainless hoses will work with any combo you have. they look like the hoses pictured in Dreamcar's photo, with swivels on the other end. The lower cost hose set has 2 stainless, and 2 rubber type, and the other set has all stainless including returns to reservoir.

I love my hydroboost setup but.... I started having a pump whining problem that I just can't track down. I thought that maybe the GN pump is putting out too much pressure? I do not have power steering.

Any tips, or ideas. I have a new pump and rebuilt hydrabooster.

My power steering pump started to make noise years ago so I replaced the fluid with Mobil syn. trans fluid for a 2004R and it has not made a whine sound since.

Hi. thanks for that. You can also use POWERBRAKESONLINE.COM Same site. It seems that Dexron III regular or syn takes care of that. The Type II pump G.M. uses has fewer vanes and sounds different. There have been other cases where we had to separate the returns back to the resvoir. The flow coming out of the box would siphon the fluid out of the H/B return line, when they are tee'd, causing those problems. We recently decided it would be best, on the G.N.'s, to use a new alum p/s reservoir that has the extra return port threaded into it. This would replace the Buick plastic reservoir. You could try the Dexron first, and if you still have the noise, separate the return lines.
