Anyone know where I can get a new or rebuilt unit for my 84? All the people at the parts stores just say I can't get one! I wonder about them people???
I'm also going to post in the brake section.

I got a rebuilt one from my local Advance Auto Parts with a lifetime warranty two years ago, part # 527211. The first one I got leaked so I had to change it again but the second one has been fine. I paid about $ 150 with a core credit. It does not come with the rubber boot that goes on the inside of the car or the master cylinder.

The only problem with going to Advance is your going to have the same problem that he had when he went to Napa. Cardone makes the one for Advance just like they did for Napa and currently cardone is only taking single units at a time and rebuilding them and not keeping any in stock. Maybe somewhere in one of Advanced wherehouses there will still be one, but other wise he will just have to send it off to cardone himself to get it redone.

That sucks, another part we are not going to be able to get  . They do say it will ship in one day so maybe they have some still in stock.

I had Originally put in a order for it and a new master cly. at autozone(parts america) and it said it could not ship the hydro unit until fri.so I canceled it thinking NAPA or some other places would have it quicker. that was on monday.
I did try to run the order again, waiting to see what kind of time frame they give me this time. autozone canceled my order by email without stating why.

Will it take 2 months to get it done?? Why do they offer these warrantees and rebuild services? why not just put a few more out there? If they can rebuild them, just make new ones.

They cant just put more out there as they need old ones to rebuild, and since they no longer have the bodies of old ones to rebuild they have to wait till someone sends theirs in to have it rebuilt. They wont take the time do design a new one as the market for them isnt that great and they wouldnt sell enough. I did give my friend here in Colorado a call over at Advanced Auto, and he said that they do show some in one of their wherehouses and that they could get one in, in 2-3 days. You may try giving your local Advance Auto parts a call and see if they say the same thing. As for the Napa one we dont show it, but I can give my wherehouse tomorrow if I remember and see if we can get one in from Cardone which is who rebuilds them. I will post back when I here back from them.

Do a search on "powerbrakebob". He is in California...He's not cheap but you will get a great unit from him.

His are a total redesign from the originals. You have to buy everything to retrofit one. I think it was last year or so that I found Bendix had a reman'd unit listed on AutoZones site. Have you also tried Rock auto?

I did get one from a guy on another board used for a good price. He was driving it when it was totaled (hope it wasn't the brakes) BUT I did resend the order to parts america/autozone and so for so good. The online order says it is in "transit" last time it said it was in "process" we'll see. I hope so. I'll keep one one the shelf.
PS mine went out with no warning in the middle of the Woodward cruise, drank about a gallon of steering @1 pint at a time. Maybe I should try to order another one.

Hydroboost brake unit

If all else fails I'll sell you mine. I only took it off my 85 GN because I couldn't get a replacement ps pump.

Oh no! I was also thinking about ordering a new PS pump. I wont even think about that for today,I'm going fishing

well crap!! hate to hear this. I gotta tell ya guys, I LOVE the hydroboost system on my 84 gn. I wish I had it on my 86 and 87. When I pull up to the line, I can barely push the brakes, then start the spool up and I can feel, through the whole front end,...the pistons in those front calipers grab and clamp down on those front rotors, knowing that those front wheels ain't gonna move till I let off that pedal, no matter what. and I know theres the "if you get a leak it all pumps out thing", but, wouldn't good preventive maintance help your chances of longevity? At least thats how I'm looking at it. Last fall I changed out the fluid, changed hoses, and the 2 hard lines (still available at advance auto parts) and all the o-rings. Would anybody recomend any other good pm to do to the system?

I'm going to look into a inline filter to the power steering pump when I do the install. I have been through every fluid an filters ect many times. It's an old car,and I expect things to go wrong no matter how hard i try to prevent them. It's my way of learning every nut and bolt on this car.

Well I have the unit in hand, but it didn't have the rubber boot with it so save the old one if you ever have to replace this unit. That boot saved my int. from being fllooded with PS fluid.
Thanks everyone with all the info and help
