This is just for discussion purposes so I don't need the "why" questions. I know of some folks running a blow through setup on the older buicks and running a distributor, etc. The question is, can the ignition be run with the cam sensor and some sort of piggy back or standalone ignition controller to run individual coils (like LS coils, etc.)? Has anyone done this?

Stock ECM could do it. No different than cranking the engine over with the fuel pump disconnected or the injectors unplugged. If it has a carb it’ll fire right up.
Want CNP? Use a tr6 module.

I'm with Steve D. ECM sees cam and crank sync it would fire coils. I don't know at what point ls coils are actually even needed though, I have a truck coil pack on my tr6 and it's never ran better than it did at 28 psi last week. I'd just keep it simple if I were doing that, just me though. I don't know much.

You’d need something to manage the engine load aspect for the ECU so it could control timing once it’s running. Maybe use an SD chip and hook up the map sensor. Let it handle all the spark control like it would normally do.

Good info. Now, regarding the blow through, picture a sniper EFI, etc. (Bolted onto the carb intake) instead of a carb. I'm wondering if the ECU with the EFI can work in conjunction with the stock cam sensor....

yes and crank sensor with a timing table with lots of adjustment
Go to holley .com at. the bottom of page instructions, read up. My Caspers Holley harness has a very nice single harness with LS coils and crank and cam that pug into there main harness It won't work with Holley directly. Holley wiring diagram 199R10555 will get you all you need. after having my Casper harness and adding Flex fuel ,VSS I have found that its quit possible this is why I was trying to get my friend to go this way.
I would do a blow through

It can be done with the stock ecm
On an axis setup from turbotweak.
The axis chip and axis box reads the maf and will give the stock ecm it's eyes.
