I've been read something about cutting off the compressor housings outlet and welding on an 84-85s proper length and then reclocking the turbo and you should be good to go? Am I missing anything? Will a TA49 or TA60 setup like this fit without hood interference and do any of you have a setup like this? I am just curious as I always see 49s for sale on the board for a good deal. Sorry if this has been covered, the search does not work for me and the seal on my Dads 85 GNs turbo went this past weekend and I know he has wanted to upgrade for a while.

yes

I have an 87 turbo on my car. This is how I did my first one. John Craig did my second one. I had an old block and intake on a stand. After mounting turbo and measuring, I cut the top (small end) of the cone adapter off to the correct lenght. Welded it to the outlet of turbo. This left me with 1 o-ring which has worked well. It will leave your throttle body cocked. At one time I had some 3/8 thick adapters made to straighten up the TB, but they are all gone.
