So from what I am understanding is we can't link to any board or thread that might have offense material anywhere on it? What are our limits? And what are yours? You never did answer if you talked to Bruce about locking down that thread. Everything is done as a commitee remember? You have to talk to everybody else about doing something like that. You can't go off doing what you feel is best. So, that had to be a pretty quick conversation to lock down that thread so quickly.

Honestly, I feel this is a great site with a wealth of information and the moderators/owners can feel free to run it how they wish. However, if we cannot discuss what is fair play and what is not, then it's like playing a kick ball game with the kid down the street that never tells you the rules. What, you mean 2 foul balls and you're out!

It's a fine line. Any forum is only as good as it's members. So if too many get pissed and leave the forum suffers. It just depends on what makes them mad. Is it the offensive posts or the strict moderation?

Also, any forum needs a way to live financially. I understand the offensive posts may cause some vendors to question their support of the site. However, I would assume they would understand this already. Though their are probably discussions behind the scenes that I'm not aware. Fine Line..... I never want to be a moderator... Though we must know what is acceptable.

Personally, I think "Work Warning" was enough for the last post. I teach children. If they are on the Internet unsupervised already then believe me... they've seen a lot worse!

I'm not Bruce nor am I Jack. However, I can tell you why the thread was locked with about 90 percent certainty Pat. The reason that thread was locked was b/c it was turning into a waste of bandwidth and a pointless thread. How hard is it to E-mail the originator of the thread for the link? If those who register would actually comprehend and implement what they have read then these problems would theoretically not happen. So for a quick refresher here is goes:

I agree to those rules, but I think the problem is that everyone has a different set of ideals concerning what is vulger and offensive. While I think that post had strong language, it may be everyday language to some. Also, a bikini woman was posted the other day and the post was deleted. While it showed no breasts or privates I thought it was okay and not extremely sexually oriented. I guess if we stick to Buicks then we'd be okay.

This would be a question you could ask of Bruce. I think that the rules set forth follow along the guides lines of applying common sense and decency. I myself am no angel. However I do realize that there is a time and a place for the use of profanity as should everyone else in attendance. I'm not saying everyone should be of the mind set that this site should be treated as a holy than thou place. Just use common sense when posting. Would you repeat every word of that Link in question that started all this to your Daughter, Mother or Grandmother? Thought so... Were all adults here(some of us) I know that. Call me "Old school" but it is of my opinion that we(adults) need to set an example of what we expect of those around us, this BB is no different. Someone once told me that the "measure of a man is the language he uses to express himself" By using profanity does it make you more or less of a person to those around you. You tell me. Away from this BB I don't care you guys act you are your own responsibilty. However, on this site it's a different story, rules are rules. Off the box....

I don't know about a "real Job" Pat, but I'm self employed and probably spend 10 hours a day at it trying to make a living for my family. If Bruce would just pay me a little more for moderating, I could quit my day job and spend 100% of my day talking with you.

Although I don't know what the original locked post contained but I think that rules like that are very important. I agree that the assessment of what is offensive or vulgar is not objective and of course you'll never reach a common ground on this matter. But I don't have a problem in seeing the offensive part in a bikini girl even though no private parts are shown if the pictures serves to reduce a woman to an object what most if these pictures do. But I haven't seen that post either, so I wouldn't know. But fact is that somebody needs to watch out that the rules of the board are obeyed and it is up to these people to decide what breaks them.

That is precisely a point Bruce and I discussed last night. That IS the guideline we are going to use.

The choice a member has is to abide be the board rules or go else where, we know that. Some boards have no rules, but that is of no concern here.

We have many reasons that require us to enforce the general guidelines as posted, and these levels have been set by Jack and myself with the approval of Bruce.

We are NOT going to have a forum for dirty jokes and anything with nudity. There are plenty of other places on the net with that available. This is a turbo BUICK board, and we plan to keep it that way.

So to avoid deletion an off-color post, or one in bad taste, don't post it. We will not explain why we deleted these kind of posts, they will just be gone.
