This is kind of a long story but worth reading b/c your jaw will probably drop when you here the deal i got. Let me start with when i first found the car. A friend of mine bought for next to nothing b/c the owner at the time thought it was about dead b/c it was smoking like a chimney, and ran like crap. my friend put a new turbo on it guess what, thats all that was wrong with it, he drove it for some time and it began to act up again, he messed w/ it some replaced the coil pack, but to no avail,he wasnt much of a mechanic so he just parked the car and bought a truck to drive and put car up for sale for $1000. i went and looked at the car and wanted it badly but my father wouldnt let me buy it b/c he wasnt familair w/ buick turbo cars and he didnt want another car setting at the house. the car eventually sold, but was sold locally, to the friend of a guy i know, the guy i know did the mechanic work on it for his friend that bought it, they found a flat lobe on the cam, so they replaced the cam, lifters, pushrods, timing chain, & water pump, they could still not get it running, so after let it set for a while longer and also getting his wife pregnant the guy decided to sell it, i found this out just last week, i made the call and he was only asking $1500 for the car, i didnt have $1500 so i offered a trade. a set of small block chevy dart pro 1 aluminum heads & a hurst quarter stick shifter that i had lying around from my small block chevy powered 68 rambler that had recently been wrecked beyond repair. he agreed. my father and i went to make sure the car was still in decent shape, it was and the deal was made.the car has what i beleive to be 120000 miles on it, but the interior is still in good shape w/ only wear on the drivers seat, and the t-handle on the shifter broken,(the interior is red), the paint is still all on the car but with gentle wear to it(black paint), it still has all the emblems, the aluminum t-type wheels, the under carriage isnt oily either just dirt & dust for driving, and the underhood is clean to, not oily or a mess just needs some cleaning from setting. i believe i got a killer deal on the car especially considering it has a new/low mileage garrett turbo. what are the first things i should do to awakin this car from its long sleep. any feedback, opinions on the purchase i made, things i should check before flogging the car, etc. etc. would be much appreciated, this is my first buick turbo car and im really looking forward driving and owning it. i am currently in the process of transfering all the stuff from the aformention wrecked rambler to a 69 rambler american that i bought, so i have time to tweak, tune, and fix the buick.
Thanks

I got my 84 Grand national for 2000, w/ rebuilt motor and tranny... all it needs is a paint job :)

Here's a good place to start with, getting the Buick ready for the road.

I got my Regal years ago, before I knew there was anyplace like this board to learn about the car. Read all you can here, lots of things to think about, beside just mashing the gas and going.

Have fun with the car. You are fortunate to have another to drive while you spend the time to get this one road-worthy. I beat mine near death, since I was young and it was my only car, for years. I have a LOT of work ahead of me someday. ;)

Have fun!! You've got some work ahead of you, but it will all be worth it.

Well, since the front cover has been off the car... make sure that the crankshaft sensor and the cam shaft sensor are set properly...If the interrupter ring on the balancer isn't going through the right gap on the crank sensor, the car won't start...Also, if the cam sensor is shot, misadjusted way off, or just plain not plugged in, the car won't start...That statement is also true for the crank sensor as well...The ecm needs a signal from both of them for the injs and coilpack to fire...

i got a great deal too!

Hey, ramblerman i was reading your story on the great deal you got on your car that's awsome! I did too. my old car (85 regal limited) got stolen and destroyed:mad: So after I settled with my insurance people i went car shopping and found my 84 t-type at a used car dealship. they said it was in rough shape so i took a look at it anyway. the car itself was in great shape 115,000kilometers was the milage on it, but the engine wasn't so good. they were asking $3400.00 for it but i knocked then down to 1500.00 taxes in! they took the money b/c i told then i didn't know how the tranny was or the rear end. they diddent either so they never complained. they didn't know who had it before me b/c they bought it at an auction.
After i got it home i had a mechanic check out the motor....it was done!two pistons were collapsed and the turbo was fried. so i called around to some wreckers and wouldn't you know it, they had a motor for me had90,000 kilos on it talk about luck or what, so i bought it and dropped it in and the turbo it came with was just rebuilt!
i do have some tips for you, these things have happened to me.
if your car starts to run really rough after you have driven it for awhile or even stalls and won't start again until you let it sit, chances are that it is your fuel pump. the stock pump is barely strong enough to feed your beast, that's why my car kept dying after i drove it for awhile. It took me 2 maf's 3 o2's 1 new set of plugs and wires to figure out what the problem was.
If your interested ina new fuel pump look up poston ent. on the web and the should have a 1-800 number you can call for a free cataloge. the have everything for our cars in there.
see ya hope this is useful to you!

Got mine for $1500 too....

it doesn't run right now but it has no rust and it's all there!:D
