I sleep best with a small floor fan in the room. It creates "white noise" which drowns out everything. I am comatose in 15 minutes tops + sleep all night. Very addicting though; can't hardly travel without a fan of some sort where I'll be sleeping.

Interesting john, Never heard of the fan thing. I dont sleep during the day, dont have time. Once in awhile it will catch up and I will take a nap, thats the ONLY time i go into a deep sleep. I dont drink, smoke, do drugs. I lsot 31 lbs so i am about where I am suppose. its real frustrating. I really thought I had restless leg syndrome but the med's didnt do crap.

Ive been sleeping with a fan for years. Drives the woman crazy and gets cold in the winter but oh well.

to sum it all up it sounds like your problem is physiologic in nature a visit to your personal physician might help. Good luck.

hey guys, anyone else???? Its driving me insane. I toss and turn every other hour, I open my eyes every night at 3AM and look at my clock? I hear everything, my legs want to run a marathon. Not getting a good night sleep screws you up big time. I am **** faced every morning due to lack of sleep. This is what I have tried so far and it has failed.
Ambien- many diff doses, nothing
Lunesta-many diff doses, nothing
med for restless leg syndrone-, nothing
Very comfy new mattress,. its comfy but doesnt help me sleep
$200 for large firm pillows, comfy, thats it
complete silence, no lights, helps/
changed my diet, NO sugar after 6PM, didnt do anything
Went to a neurologist on the restless leg syndrome (I guess i dont have it)
Tried exercising at night, doesnt help
tried Camamille tea, doesnt do anything.
tried warm milk, nothing
I have run out of idea's and patience.

anyone else have this annoying problem?

Sell your Buick,And it will all go away:biggrin:

+3 John was first:wink: Actually this works quite well!

I can't stand all out silence, it's just to much especially during the night time.

Give it a try, if you haven't done so already.

Get some female company in bed with you, then ask her how her day was and you will be sleeping quickly!!! Ask me how I know!! She'll probablly still be talking when you wake up!

KB does work well also:eek: !!!

Insomnia

I struggle with it as well at times, how much caffiene do you have a day?. I cant' drink coffec after noon in fact I've given up coffee for the most part. Otherwise my mind is going 100 miles an hour.Or I'll be watching Military channel at 3am, I watch Chop,Cut, Rebuild at 5am . Do you take prescription pain meds because some can cause insomnia after awhile of taking them. By the way out of habit the TV will be on and I fall asleep for a couple hours but I've found that if we turn the TV off and there is no stimuli seem to sleep longer and able to get back to sleep then if TV is on. But I know there is nothin else to do when your looking at the clock every hour on the hour. My backpain doesn't let me sleep at times unless I have some pain relief. toss and turn cause I can't get comfortable. like you buying pillows I bought a Tempur-pedic mattress. Working out is the worse thing you can do before bed and man you'd have to take your own bodyweight in melatonin to get you sleepy......

Ambien SR and Lunesta they barely work, the one med you may ask your physcian about is Xanax my Doc.gave me some samples and slept like a baby on valium. Doesn't sound like you have sleep apnea as one gentlemam talked about CPAP that does help people with SA because it keeps a continous positive airway pressure keeps tonque from falling back into the oropharynx and blocking epiglottis and keeps airways open that way you don't wake yourself up by trying to catch your breath from not breathing. People wake themselves because they feel like they're suffocating and it's from being hypoxic/hypercapnic(low O2,high CO2) and apenic(no breathing) . Just sounds like you can't turn off your sympathetic system, you don't have nervous leg syndrome and they shouldn't have given you meds for it.

Seriously try Xanax it should put you down. There is also a New over the counter sleep med called Sleep MD usually Wal-Mart carries it works pretty good as all the other OTC's don't work.

My wife tells me no one ever died from lack of sleep  , and the job I have you have to anticipate and be on your toes when a patient goes south, crashes, code blue. granted your adrenaline takes over , it is nice to get a goodnight sleep. Hope you get some help with your insomnia and finally get some sound sleep.

+4 to John I had a "white noise generator" I got it from a sleep doc when I was in the army. Plug in to any wall and it would make a sound like old time tv with no station on. Just made me crash. I then lost it on an FTX and have had a fan on ever since. A sleep doc told me also "Bed is for sleeping or loving!" He said if I wasn't asleep in 15 mins GET UP!!! Get out of the room until you feel tired then go back. What you end up doing is training yourself (body and mind) to lay there and not sleep. I have gone 4 days without a wink before so I feel your pain. I have also been told about a chemical in the brain that makes you sleepy after sex, it's not just the physical excertion, but there are few things better to work hard at! If I can think of anything else I will post back. Best of luck brother. Jon Hanson

you have only been awake for six years, try 15 years. I had the same trouble no sleep for days/wweks then crash for 12-18 hours and feel great. You know you look like hell when people ask who you were in a fight with ( black sunken eye's). I did the sleep study and felt like I had a definate better than average sleep that night. 68 times in eight hours I came out of a sleep pattern. I ended up having surgurey on my nasal passages. The first year was like being a kid again. I now have only a few days instead of a week or two at a time of bad sleep. Try one of those contured pillows they feel weird at first but now thats what I like the best. Also if you a little heavy weight wise in the belly lose some weight it will help you breath easier. If you are serious about it see a doctor and dont settle for pills or drinks for aid.

VALIUM 10's !!!!! Ever since my motorcycle accident 3yrs ago, the nerve endings in my ankle keep me awake at times and Valium works great! ask to try it but ask for the 10's then you only need one.

I cant believe how many of you guys use fans. are these special fans??? do they move? you feel the breeze or you jsut need to ehar the air move?

I’ve been sleeping with a fan for over twenty years. No fan= no sleep for me. Creates a little noise and I’m out.

I've been not sleeping good for 2 yrs. I wake up all sweated up, my pillow and the bed under me is soaking wet. I am to the point where I sleep with a towel on my pillow and on the bed. I have been to 2 different Docs and they have X-rayed me to death and have taken blood from me for every kind of test that can be made on blood. Then just the other day they called and said I should go for a sleep study cause I probably have sleep appnea? I told them unless you are putting me up at some resort that has a happy hour and a pool, I'm not going cause I'm not sleeping with some mask on my face. A friend of mine had to do that and he said it sucked. He finally got an operation. I did find something on google for not sleeping and waking up alot called Candida, but the doc says no way. If you find out what cures your sleep problem, let us know.
Tarey D.
I'd probably try the HERB but it stinks and I don't smoke. :D

I can't sleep good without a fan either. I can hear a mouse pee on cotton, so any strange noise will wake me up. With my fan on, I sleep all night straight through.

i have'nt slept threw the night sense my brain surgery in 02, the fan i use as well, they do make sound machines it gives you the choice of rain, waterfall, a brook, night sounds, heart beat, and a few more the machine you can control the volume, i know i take way to many pain and otc meds, and wake at least 10 times per night thats if i can fall asleep at all..

guys are these regular fans?? are they pointed towards you as well? or jsut the noise does the trick?

Chinese zen master say "Dont sleep with the fan right on you. Pores open up and air make your sore"

Reading this thread totally hits home for me. I am wacked out this morning as usual. I fall asleep at about 11:30 or so every night and wake back up at 2:00 am and then can't go back to sleep till about 6:00 a.m then my alarm starts...BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. Then I start slinging sh*t and cussing the world. A fan works a bit, Ambien just make me feel sleepier the next day, Tylenol PM may work a few times, then I'm immune the 3rd day. "FANTASTIC herbal remedies" will only cause you to detail every piece of chrome under your hood and your friend's too or you'll be in the kitchen for hours perfecting your lasagna recipe. Booze may work, but the next day puke sessions are an unfortunate after affect. I sometimes throw on a cd of thunderstorms and put it on repeat with a fan running with the History channel in the background at low volume. I can set my tv to automatically shut off. I wish I could fall asleep like my dad. He sits down and is snoring in 5 minutes!!

This will help

Regular fan pointed in any direction but straight on me. I keep mine on medium just for the noise. Puts me to sleep everytime.

Note:
My wife started me on the fan trick and it took a week or so to adjust to it. Now its been 7years.
