well, tonight I am going to start the fan routine, I will try it for a week. Since I am a light sleeper I will try it at the low setting. I am shocked to see how many members here have a problem sleeping?

ceiling fan and bathroom vent fan on here at night too.AND i dont mind to publically saying that i smoke "happy" sometimes for a good nights sleep:biggrin: with business, home, money stress "happy" will let me relax and go to sleep and my wife says i dont snore;)

maybe we need a "happy" section/thread??give it some code name like; gonzha, hokis pokis, etc

Great American Sleep Debt.

Reading an article about insomnia (above) 60 million people suffer from insomnia and 40% women suffer from it . Very prevelant in America:(

Worked for me!!

Yep, 1 of my ex wives slept with a fan, while I slept on the couch. 1 slept with the neighbors.
They're both history, I'm in the bed now, and sleep is GREAT!!! To bed about 11, and up at 6-6:30.
Since I've moved back to the country, less sleep is required, and I don't wake up every 3 hrs....

I sleep best with a small floor fan in the room. It creates "white noise" which drowns out everything. I am comatose in 15 minutes tops + sleep all night. Very addicting though; can't hardly travel without a fan of some sort where I'll be sleeping.

it works great i have ben sleeping with some type of fan for yrs. I also got to have the room pretty cooled down also for me to sleep decent.

I have problem from time to time about not sleeping well and all the things you described.

Reading this thread totally hits home for me. I am wacked out this morning as usual. I fall asleep at about 11:30 or so every night and wake back up at 2:00 am and then can't go back to sleep till about 6:00 a.m then my alarm starts...BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. Then I start slinging sh*t and cussing the world.

thats why i hate mornings. :) those are my sleep habits rite there. well it's 11:20 rite now :)

Fans are great, so are the clocks that have the ambient sounds.

Try ear plugs first, you can get the cheapy ( 30 db ) ones for a $1.

Ask anyone that works in a recording studio and they will tell you that if you were to partly or completely sound proof your room, that dead air feeling will knock you out no doubt.

My 2 ideas are:

1. Sleep study. I have sleep apnea. Bad. The CPAP machine helps a bunch, but I still have some problems, so I'm going in for a full overnight study.

2. Alpha Lipoic Acid before bed. This seems to be a good supplement.

Heavy exercise...

I'm talking about a full time training program in some kind of sport. For me it's cycling. When I am in the middle of training I am just dead tired at night.

That said, I too have had sleep issues since I'm on again off again with training.

I really hate those people that fall asleep anywhere. I have a friend who will completely pass out snoring during a 5 minute car ride in the middle of the day. I want to strangle him. The only way I can fall asleep in the day is if I am showered, the room is cool, the shades are closed, in a bed, and I have nowhere to be the rest of the day. I have gone 30+ hours without sleep and on the road and not even close to falling asleep. Especially on the road. My eyes get bloodshot and watery but I've got a white knuckle grip on the wheel and turn into something not human.

glad I am not the only one lol. The steady hum of a fan helps me a lot but my wife snores like crazy also. I tried ear plugs the other week and that with the fan seems to help me a lot. To much on the mind is my problem. Daniel Ray

I just went on Xanax .5 mg 2 weeks ago and it works like a CHAMP. Take it right after supper and with a chaser of your favorite beverage:biggrin: and you wont move until the alarm goes off.

+1 on a fan

I've found eating a big spinach salad at dinner helps me sleep at night. Don't know why but others have said the same thing.

I have the same problem, kind of. I sleep good Friday night thru Sunday night but not the rest of the week I relate this to my job because I have to get up at 3 in the morning for work. By Friday I'm burned out so bad I can barely stand up after taking a shower. I also have a fan on, as any little noise will wake me. I'll be watching this thread for ideas.

I just dont get too tired and stay up way to late during the week.
Usually go to bed at 11-11:30pm and up at 5:45am, once i hit that pillow usually i fall asleep in a few seconds.

If i try and go to bed early, i will wake up at 2am in the morning and wont fall back asleep. Well most likely right when the alarm clock is about to go off is when i start to nodd off again.

Ive been sleeping with a fan in the room for about 10 years, x girlfriend started that with me and i havent given it up.

Another stupid trick ive tried and works if i cant fall asleep soon is....
Ever hear of a fussy baby that wont sleep so you wrap them tight and they fall asleep?

I take my fuzzy blanket and wrap myself like a cacoon and zzzzzzzzz:smile:

Yep, join the club. I can't sleep worth a s**t. I always had trouble sleeping, but it's WAYYY worse now after iraq lol. I get up for EVERY noise, and never really sleep anymore. It's kickin my a** too. I've no clue what to try either. Tried takin diphenhydramine, nothing. diphenhydramine with beer. nothin. doxlamine succinate with no effects. and doxlamine succinate with beer. nothing still. Tried getting drunk, and felt good and ready to sleep. Went upstairs, and crashed peacfully for about 2 hours, then was WIDE awake for the rest of the night, and morning.
For me, the only way I can sleep, is if I totally and utterly wear myself out. I run quite often now, and that's still not enough physical training to tire me out for the night. I am going to the doctors in 2 weeks to get looked at. Maybe I can pass on some info for ya.

Update

Well, I bought a fan from staples lastweek. I isntalled it on the other side of the room , low setting (its pretty loud) and in locked pos. Didnt do crap. its day 6 with the fan and it didnt help :(. Time to see a specialist.
