what can I do to make the tranny housing/casing look new again? If that isnt so easy or possible, what can I do to it to give it a "show quality look?" I know youll never see it, but when you pay someone over $2k to build it up inside, I want it to look good on the outside? I thought about painting it, but Ive seen some horrible outcomes on painting trannys. In some spots its really shiny and in other spots its really dull. Not an even clean look. I dont want to take too much time on it, but something thats fairly quick that will make it look good or new. Thanks

Spray it with a good brake cleaner to get rid of any greasy fingerprints and spray with Krylon Dull Aluminun. Gives that fresh look to all aluminum parts. Good for alternators, too.:)

Thanks! Will there be any sanding involved or do you recommend doing so? Will a degreaser work or will brake cleaner work better?

You can use degreaser, just be careful not to get water inside:eek: A wire brush will work wonders, too.

btw, what happened to your LS-1? I need one for my wagon:D

Next time you need to rebuild it try to have the bare case chemically dipped. I have done this on lots of engine blocks, heads and manifolds along with transmission cases and rear axle housings and the cast aluminum comes out looking like it just came out of the mold. I 'm not talking about the dip tank that they use down at the machine shop but someone who has the capability to do big industrial projects. Some one who dips car bodies to remove bondo and rust is what I am talking about. I personally use Revivation in Winter Haven FLA.

Still have it. Its in the car. Im doing a tranny swap only.

Turbofish38: I wish that I could do that to the tranny, but more than likely Im going to have to ship it off, which is going to cost me to. Then even more to get it back. Unless I can find somone locally that does that, then its not worth it. Then, since Im having the tranny built, I would have to get my builder to hold off when he gets everything out of the casing, have it done, then get it back to him to build it. Too much of a pain. The only other option I have is to buy a casing, have that done to it, then have it when I get the build. Thanks for the tip though.
